    Min Kotta-Motor Guide

    Looking this week at buying a tiller electric motor for me new canoe, anyone know of shops who stock both of these is big numbers in the Brisbane region. Im chasing a 55lb to 82lb in size. Been googling me you know what off. Any help would be appreciated. Reason for this is the big boats for the wknd and canoe for during the week to take my 2yr old out after work each day.

    As soon as you go over 55lb thrust you need 24v which means that 2 batteries are not really practical in a canoe.

      Your best bet is a 45lb Minn Kota Endura.

        Its 5mtrs long so room isn't a worry with batteries.

          gday mate,
          I have a 4.8 mtr (15.6') ramx canoe with 2.4mtr long x 250mm diam outrigger and 900x900mm aluminium deck between outrigger and canoe. I have a 54lbs poer and it easily pushes the lot with 3 adults and 80kgs - 100kgs of gear. I carry 2 batteries. We can cruise in it for about 2.5 hours (per battery) before it slows down. The Batteries are gel fully sealed 80Ah. I stuck to the 54lbs so that I would only need 12V not 24V as ray pointed out. the next thing I would add to the canoe is a sail so we can use it downwind when travelling and save power. the sail would not weigh too much.

            Picked up today a Old Town Saranac 160xt with 55lb minn kota from the boat show. Should perform pretty good, bloody long canoe so can chuck in few extra goodies. Next option is it might sound silly but run twin 55lb minn kotas one each side on separate universal mounts.

              You should have gotten a bowmount there better on a long canoe in a river be it fresh or salt its better to be pulling up the front than to be pushing from the stern,you will be fighting it in any current or breeze,but pushing from the stern is faster thats the only advantage.
