Overdraft - saw you guys just inside Roonies - the boys were having a ball jumping off the boat roof at dusk - great to see kids having fun on dad's boat.
We did two days and two nights out there.
Thursday night was very calm and Friday night a bit fresh.
Got to Roonies Thursday night for raft-up - had a good night.
Caught up with quite a few folks even though most were just seen several boats across - Bill and Dave :-)
Morning predawn we had a humpback mum and calf surface twice about 5m from boat - awesome.
Headed out in nice conditions and got a mixed bag.
We tried deep drop searching for about 4 hours in country 160m to 400m for absolutely zero show on the sounder - marine desert in the deep was a big disappointment.
A 45 foot marlin boat tied up to mothership was just noticed :-)
We went OS Saturday and it was not the 13knots they said but more 20-25 and drifting was 3-4kph with chute out and 5-7kph without chute - we tried motoring over the marks and it was not happening so we wasted that day.
The bar was bumpy and messy but not dangerous.
The esky showed we tried and did okay but nothing from the deep.
Home trip in dark with 20-25knot wind and no moon was a shocker - back at ramp 9.30pm when it was pumping a solid 25 knots plus by this time
All in all we had a great time and enjoyed our stay along with a chat with some of the guys.

We headed up after work Wednesday night arriving at the ramp at about 2am. We had a snooze at the ramp and and were on our way to Roonies at 5.15am.
A quick refuel at Roonies then over the bar at the 4 mile crossing. The conditions were sensational without a breath of wind at times throughout the day.
We decided to only chase Black Marlin this trip and for all the time we spent offshore on Thursday we didn't turn a reel with only 1 strike for the day. At about 3pm we headed back in over the 4 mile crossing and caught a few Mac tuna on light gear on our way back to Roonies. On arriving back at Roonies we put the skirts back out and started hunting around again and managed to get a small black before we rafted up for the night.
I think we had about 8 boats rafted up and it was fun catching up with the all the guys and the usual banter that goes with it.
Friday morning was when it all happened for us on Gina Maree catching 7 blacks before 1PM and the run home back to urangan.
Thanks to all the boats and crews that made the trek up this year. We missed not having the Horse with us and hope he picks the weather for next year just as well as he has the last 3 years.
Cheers Bull
It was great to catch-up with you there Bull - you cook a mean marlin and chips

Trev,
The Horse wanted to bring a small one home this year for the table he reckons they cook up well. I haven't tried one yet.
I've never caught one but eaten plenty out of the smoker, pretty tasty if done right.
We are heading back up in two weeks to give it another go (weather permitting) this time no kids or wives just the boys. Will give the deep drop a go if the current isnt to bad.
Don't be shy Ivanna wasn't.
Im thinking the same thing, get back up there for a weekend and chase some of the bigger marlin out wide.
