A suggestion is to download the free version of AVAST which is an antivirus program and see what happens when you run it over the hard drive/s. I have used this program for many years.
Another thing to try is download the trial version of Malwarebytes and run that also as this also finds stuff that may be on your pc.
Also have look at http://www.akadia.com/services/about_blank_virus.html as this may help.

another way sometimes to find out what is going on is this: Firstly you have to try and figure out approx when it started to happen.. like a date.
once that is established go into your control panel off the start menu (bottom left corner) have a look in "uninstall a program" it will give you the list of programs.. look at the dates they were installed and see if you can find something that you dont recognise at the same time the changes started occuring and uninstall that program. Then uninstall your browser and reinstall it fresh again then restart your computer.. this may fix it (probably will) otherwise you have a virus likely a cookie which will require a malware/spyware removal program.. be carefull though some of the sites that say free malware programs are the actual virus...just to make it even more confusing..
thanks for your help guys, I did't thing it would be easy, i'll try your suggestions. thanks rob...

Did you try a reboot?
Update you Java and Flash.
Then try a different browser and see if it happens. I use firefox, but if I have an issue, I check it with Explorer and Chrome. If plays up on all three browsers, then I know I have a more serious problem.
Fishing- It's only an addiction if you're trying to quit.
Malwarebytes is a riggy digg program. I used it to get rid of the ransom stuff that locked my PC.
This is from a previous post of mine - I turned my PC on this morning to find that I somehow got the Australian Federal Police ransom screen that says that my PC has been locked because I have been looking at things I should not and I have to pay 100 dollars to uKash to get the lock taken off. This is a bloody ripoff.
Luckily I could still access the net as administrator and downloaded a free program - http://malwaretips.com/download-malwarebytes -
which gets rid of this ransomware and other sh*t.
Hmm, about:blank in the address bar usually just gives a blank webpage. Does it happen for every website or just ausfish?
Coincidentally since the title of this thread is about blank the web browser grabs that and puts it as the tab title.
If it appears in the tab title I wouldn't worry about it to much, it may just be that the browser doesn't know what to name the tab. if it is in the address bar but you are still getting to the webpage I would do as the others have suggested and try AVAST or Malwarebytes and scan for any virus infections. Updating java and flash is always a good idea as they always have regular security patches.
Could be any number of things. There was a virus on Internet Explorer (You're using Chrome I think)that caused the blank page to display peoples' advertisements and such to people but that was removed by running MalwareBytes. I'd bet that it's nothing as about blank should only come up for a blank page. Probably a problem with taking the title of the page out of the data packet caused by weird network settings on your router. I'd advise using MalwareBytes just to make sure nothing naughty is embedded in your system. Other than that if you want to go deep into it use a network analyser or packet analyser like WireShark to inspect the packets but that will require a bit of time.
Cheers,
John
