The weather looked good on Saturday , so I saddled up the BeastMaster early and towed her from Brisbane up to the Sunshine Coast. We passed through the odd shower of rain on the way up the highway , but all was dry by the time we got to the ramp. With my brother and nephew on board as decky's with launched from the newly finished twin double ramps at the Mooloolaba Coast Guard ramps and headed north into a slightly unsettled sea .Not known to us then, but the newly finished twin double ramps omen was going to bring us luck for the rest of the day .
The target species of Spanish and Spotty Mackerel eluded us for the morning , and I suspect the great run of mackerel may be all but over for this year. Luckily we brought some squid and mullet as backup bottom drop bait.
After a couple of drifts , of floating strip baits down on 3x 4/0 gangs on light leads , we manage to put a pretty respectable box of mixed reef fish together .
At about 10am , the nephew pulled up 2 grassies , which must have been fighting over his bait and both got pinned on the single gang , as he was struggled to get them off , we all had a good laugh saying that doesn't happen very often, next thing you know my brother is on , so being all hyped up, we yelled leave it sit ,leave it sit - next the you know his rod started to buckle over a bit more , and I yelled hit it again, well you wouldn't BL...y believe it- he winds up another two grassies pinned on his gang . HIGH FIVES all round and pictures to ponder over . Happy with that effort we headed home in glassed out conditions, spotting about 8 whales on the trip back. Great day out with the lads having plenty of laughs .
Regards
