    Thumbs up North Brisbane Advice

    Team,
I have an 11 yo boy keen as mustard to catch fish. We have all the lures necessary but after a long hiatus from saltwater fishing I'm out of touch and am second guessing myself on where to go.
I'm taking him out in the tinnie tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon and targeting flatties and if luck tailor. I want to stay close to home so looking at either Schultz's Canal / Jackson Creek, Cabbage Tree / Nundah Creek or Scarby reef.
What would you recommend - to save the research there's an afternoon high about 3pm and a 1.2m+ run.
Is there a chance of tailor on the flats off Nudgee Beach / Shorncliffe in the arvo or should I be heading to Scarborough.
    Thanks in advance
    J

I had some luck a month ago around the old Shorncliffe jetty on the northside of it. There was plenty of whitebait getting chased around. We put in at Cabbage Tree. Have fun.

Thanks Inchy, have never fished around that area. Sounds like a good option.

    Two good starts are:

    1. Flats along Nudgee Beach (Schulz Canal) about 2hr before low tide
    2. Flats at end of Haysmouth Pde, Clontarf around low tide

Thanks PixieAU, unfortunately the tides are against us tomorrow but definitely keep it in mind as an option on the lows. J

Try the flats West and South West of the Bribie Jetty.

Start about 1 hour after the bottom of the tide and try to stay in about 3 feet of water.

Troll small pillies about 150 feet behind the boat at idle speed.

3 hook ganged rig and never stay in a straight line, curve about and circle about so the bait is not always directly behind the boat.

Weed may be a problem so adjust your speed and depth to suit. A lot of flatties there last week.

After tailer, try a little deeper, same rig same pattern, you don't want to drive over the fish and scare them, thus the curves. Works for us.

Try any sand flats with lures trolled slowly (I mainly troll in water between 1.5 - 4 feet of water (in a straight line) and my go-to lure is the EcoGear SX40/SX43 in 351 colour pattern. Last time I took my father-in-law out crabbing we had a troll for half an hour in my favourite spot around the mouth of the pine and we kept 6 fish ranging from 45-60cm. time before that took a mate and in an hour we caught and released 25 fish.

Thanks for the advice. Ended up trying Cabbage Tree Creek and the young fella boated a nice flattie on the first cast. Nothing much else around. Went out to the front around the Shorncliffe jetty and something was chasing the bait so we thought we were on for the Tailor. Sadly we only managed some Grinners on trolled lures. All in all not a bad way to spend an afternoon. J.
