Large Spanish off the beach at Inskip

Long story short, family camping trip to Inskip, decided to fish the surf side between rainbow and inskip with a big dead bonito on a slide baiting rig. Caught a lovely 157cm Mackerel. Not sure on weight as it broke my 25kg scales but probably around 30kg.

Waiting on more photos from my old man. Hoping he got some good ones Will post if he got some.

Scorpo92 - In a nutshell, using quite heavy gear (Im currently using a custom made 14ft graphite rod and Daiwa saltist BG50) you throw out a grapnel sinker (in this case 6 oz) once the sinker has settled and is holding firm you clip on the bait using a slide clip (in this case a dead bonito, was using live tailor last year on fraser and plan to do the same again this year) then you jig the rod/if its live the fish swims out towards your sinker and then you sit and wait!

Allows you to cast your sinker a long way, and get big baits out into the strike zone, and unlike swimming a bait conventionally with or without a balloon you dont have to spend ages guiding and hoping he goes where you want. If your bait is live he has a very limited zone he can swim in (aka the direction of your line) and if dead well hes going to slide exactly where you want, no swimming happening there.

Yeah Jim no problems at all. Cut a little further from the head and cut out the backbone because that's where ciguatera builds up the most. Then tried a small piece the day we caught it (as no cats were available for testing!), nothing 24hrs later so had a good feed on Wednesday.

Have a mate who regularly fishes out of Bundy and Hervey Bay, he reckons there is a while lot less ciguatera around then there used to be and he wouldn't even be close to worried until the fish went over 40kg.
