Nice cobra mate they do put up a great account for themself awesome fun
Before someone tells me I'm posting a fishing report in the wrong forum, I know I know. The Fishing Reports forum kept logging me off, so anyway???
I got out off the coast south of Weipa Monday arvo and Tuesday, bottom bashing and chasing long tails.
I managed one small Tuna at the first bait sighting and that was to be the only one. They were very hard to sneak up on and sitting waiting for them just didn't go my way.
At my favorite mark in 24meters I dropped some U15 prawns down in hope of enticing an arm aching battle with some big tuskers or emperor perhaps but it just wasn't to be. After a short wait I hooked into something that fought deep for a brief moment pulling a few meters from my spool, as I would gain it back it pulled some more and eventually the fish came up to fight it out on the surface. What I thought to be a shark turned out to be a Cobia. Surprised I fished on, loosing as many as I caught.
I don't know Cobia that well, I have caught one drifting a pilly on the surface and seen them swimming with Manta Rays but never would have guessed to catch them feeding on the bottom like this. They put up a great fight taking line around the boat under the boat around the motor and anchor rope they tried all the tricks in the book and kept me on my toes.
Overnight the wind picked up (again) and made for a VERY uncomfortable morning. I managed to catch two more Cobia and again didn't see any of the usual reef suspect. Cutting the fishing short as the 1.5m seas were ridiculous I had to head for sheltered water and sit it out. Around lunch time it just about glassed out and I headed for home chasing those elusive Long Tail Tuna again, I really want an electric motor to improve my ninja casting stealthyness. Reports from the northern coast were a lot better with a bunch of good sized Tuskers and Grassy Emperor being caught by a couple of boats.
Heres a link to a short clip I made, I'm no film producer.
Happy fishing

happy days ahead summer is coming
I think cobes eat pretty much anything. I've heard of them having birds in their stomach and I have caught one about 24kg which had a stingray in its stomach about 30cm diameter.....
Good fun to catch alright nice work
Mate i love the chest mount GoPro action. I have some awesome barra fishing from the Gulf on chestmount as well. Cobia are pigs to gaff and actually get in the boat. Caught a 20 kg on a tiny livey recently . What an ordeal. Thax for the great report!

Awesome Champion! Can't wait to get up that way next June/July (2015) and hunt down some of these hard fighting monsters. Nice Work on the cam!
