Long time since I posted this and I now have upgraded to a couple of HDS 9 Gen 3's (with a Structure scan) but have any of you ever had any issues with your HST-DFSBL Lowrance deep water transducer on 200khz since running it on 83khz ??? A Lowrance guy told me if I try doing this I may damage the 200khz element as it was not designed to run 83khz and there is no element for this in the Tranny. I ask because I now have this Tranny as I busted the cable on my P66 which served me very well for many years but as it was close to the transducer end of the cable and I could not get anyone to repair it safely or with any sort of guarantee.

Why would you want to run a 50/200 transducer on 83khz??
Not designed to run that frequency and it would have no benefit to do so.
Its designed to run 200 in shallower water, and 50 in deeper than about 100m.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

For the reasons that Snakecatcher said back in the day Moonlighter as seen above in this old post:
"If you only use 200khz you will get better target separation but you sacrifice how much water under the boat is being scanned as it only sends out a narrow beam. 83khz however sends out a wider beam which covers a wider area so it is great for finding bait schools, fish etc. but you lose definition. I generally use 83khz until I find what I am looking for then switch back to 200khz for a more detailed look. if you have downscan which I think runs at 455khz you will get an even clearer picture. Hope this helps"
Using the transducer guide found at: http://transducerguide.simrad-yachting.com I can see that at: 31 metres depth for example using an 83khz I can see a beamwidth under me of 31 meters as opposed to just 16 metres using the 50khz setting. This is ideal for initial searches for bait etc. Then once you find the appropriate territory/bait you are looking for you can switch to 200khz for a better look at the bottom structure etc.
Love to hear from Snakecatcher and any others that used to or currently run the 83 on their 50/200 to see if it ever did any damage to the 200 element long term.

I doubt you even get the option to run a 50/200 transducer on 83.
Snake was talking about a 83/200 transducer. Totally different beast from a 50/200, different elements, most probably with different beam widths etc.
but anyway, proceed...
