Time for a new Combo + help on 2nd fuel tank gauge via combo.

    G'day guys

Time for a new Combo before I head up to 1770

Looking at spending around $1,200.00 including transducer. I really like something around the 7" Mark in size. I also have the issue that I would like to run both of my fuel tanks levels through the combo on then onto new fuel guages (My yamaha one is stuffed and I don't currently have one for my 2nd tank) Whitworths suggested this would be a pretty easy job as I would run the tank senders info straight into the sounder and then send this information onto the gauges. Is this correct? They also suggested this would be around a 2 hour process for a decent marine electrical guy including fitting the transducer etc.

What are your thoughts on this? I am really interested to hear your opinions on what you would buy and the fuel tank set ups. I have no real allegiance to any sounder brands. Boat is a 6 Metre platey with 2 x 100L fuel tanks.

What would you buy and do?

    Cheers
    Nick

    Hi Mate.

Yamaha saltwater series 130hp 2000 model. Will the above mentioned set up work with 2 tanks though? Cheers and thanks!

I agree with CM. I bought a lowrance hdi7 but wish I had of got the simrad. Lets you plug a lot of extra stuff into it down the track. And it's got some good features.

    Cheers Nic
That's a nice fish you caught... Do you mind if I use it for bait.

dammit. pressed the wrong button. lost my message

a resistive fluid level sensor "nmea2k" for each tank would be good.
a fuel flow meter "nmea2k" will tell you fuel rate.. fuel ramining "in total. not individual tanks" and range

i think the fuel flow meter is going to be your cheaper and easiest option.

    so you will need
    1x simrad NSS7
    1x fuel flow meter kit
    1x nmea2k backbone starter kit
    1x HSTWSBL 83/200 transducer

a map card would prob put y ou over your budget.
but thats a pretty good set up

yeah nicholas feel free to message me if you fancy,

its a rather simple and painless procedure putting all these bits together. i think its worth giving it a go yourself. save yourself a few bob as well.

Cheers mate. Will do. Where are you based? So will the fuel level, usage and range display on the actual sounder itself? How does this work? Not interested in mounting transducers and drilling holes etc! Haha.

yeah sorry just cleared it out.

im based down here in melbourne. for the greater australian region. i hope im helpful to people here

so on the simrad its fairly adaptive at showing guages and engine info heres a real quick video i put together demonstrating that

Thanks very much mate. No probs ordering something out of Melbourne for me. Will my motor show other diagnostics or will I just have fuel etc?

no unfortunatly 2000 model year is a tad too old for NMEA2K. so no engine diagnostics will come through the head unit.

    UNLESS!!!!

you want to go to the effort of running a analog to nmea2k adaptor box. maetron make a good one. it requires lots of small bare wires and calibration.... not. um... fun
