I had pulled a couple of nice squire off this spot the week before and that is what I was targeting, I'm trying different toppings on my crispy skin Moreton bay snapper and I wanted to try sweet & sour this week! So yeh a by-catch for sure. After landing this fella I had some lunch & a bit of a rest but still not having a snap on board I did another drift, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, same thing again, you are kidding me, I can't do this again so I held the spool and pinged it, packed up and went home.
Bloody hell what hit the jighead! I use Gamakatsu heavy wire hooks on all my small sized jigheads and they have caught snapper to 85cm in the bay. Who had the drag too tight? If targeting longtails I recommend my 1/2oz or 3/4oz jigheads with 3/0 and 5/0 Owner hooks.
Next time you pick up some jigheads I'll replace the mangled one under warranty
Cheers

That was the jig head that caught the tuna, I reckon it wasn't far short of 20Kg, I go to the gym on occaison and know what 20Kg feels like from lifting them on and off the bars, this was only a few Kg's short IMHO so don't feel too bad Barry!
I feel much better now with new heaviest fish on my 3/8oz jigheads.
Cheers
Barry
All i can say is thats sounds crazy! Bet you'll remember that for a long time!
Nice fish, there sure are plenty of them around at the moment. 20kg is pretty big - I have picked up a few over the last few weeks and you don't appreciate how big they are until you get them in the boat (or try and get the bastards close enough to the boat to land!).
Thats wy we fish....
great read, great fish. Cmon kids, get in the truck. Where goin up the beach fishing...
