You could have a look at theOkuma Solterra range, they are a lever drag OH reel with level wind as an option, plus they have a lifetime warranty.

I wouldn't have a clue what they are like as a reel but they are another option to look at.

I've used Abu overheads for years around the 5600 to 6500 sizing. Had some with level winds and some of the CT models (without level winds). Never had any problems with the line lay on them whatsoever.
You really need to get used to laying the line by hand, bit tedious at first, but then you just do it without even thinking about it, just like a muscle memory thing, all part and parcel of learning to use your gear.
I have an 18 year old star drag Daiwa SL20SH which still refuses to die, and a newer TLD 20, love both reels, the Daiwa casts easier, but you've gotta love the lever drag on the TLD.
    Cheers.

Bigjimg, I checked out that link on the Abu Garcia, the reviews say that that don't lay line evenly. Have you had this problem at all? I'm interested about the abus because I have a couple of eggbeater abus that seem to be indestructible.
I use 7000's, 6500's and 5000's and all lay line evenly, I've never had an issue. Also have a 7000i ct mag, no level wind and have plenty of other reels without level wind and never have an issue. You just have to be in the groove of laying line with your thumb, after many years it becomes second nature. Enjoy your quest. Jim.

the okumas might be what you want had a mate get one about ten years ago and still going plus if you live in Sydney the lifetime warranty is great just drop it in any time it doesn't feel right his been doing this for years and never had them even dispute if it was a warranty issue that's why he keeps buying them I'm a shimano fan but lately some of there reels have been a real let down and not the low end either the new sustains aren't worth a pinch of salt but im getting off track here. okumas are reasonably price for what you get just don't have the big following of the older brands
    hope this helps
