Where to mount 1kw transducer on Kevlacat 5.2
I am looking to upgrade my sounder to a Furuno 587 with 1 kW transducer. Was thinking TM260 but it is a big transducer to mount on the transom and I have read that there are some problems sounding at speed along with a rooster tail of spray. Would I be better getting a M260 and mounting in hull through the deck spin out at the back.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Mate you need to look at thru-hull from airmarr i know Kevlacat are starting to go down this road with there placement of transducers out of the shop. The only thing you will find by going with the thru-hull is that the software in the transducer has not been tested fully with furuno the sounder will work fine but you may not be able to use the function of bottom descrim, Iam pretty sure Accurra fish works with most transducers, there is software being updated to fix this problem, its because furuno have improved there product and only matched it with 1 or 2 transducers from airmar they just need time to catch up. Hope this helps, regards Michael.

Maccas, i am running a m260 in hull with no issues , works fine at speed up to 20 knots or more depending on the sea conditions ,coupled with speed and temp transom mount all good ,if you want to go down this track you will need to cut 4 small notches in your starboard rear spin out to fit the square wet box then reseal with sicaflex.

Fromeo,
How big are the notches and whereabouts exactly did you mount wetbox in bilge. Did you need to trim anything from the bottom to fit it at the correct angle. If you have any pics that would be good. What depth are you able to hold bottom and see fish.

Maccas,
The notches will be covered by the ring on the floor so they are not that big , no triming of the bottom just need to cut the wet box to suit the angle of the hull , I did this by cutting a piece of cardboard as a template based on the angle of the hull then transferred the angle to the wet box to cut out . I can see fish at browns mountain 400 - 600 mts , I will post some pics for you during the week

hi maccas here are the pics of the M260 install , you will need to accommodate the cable for the transducer so I drilled a hole and glassed in a tube put the cable down and sealed it off . see the picsWP_20140330_007.jpgWP_20140330_006.jpgWP_20140330_002.jpgWP_20140330_005[1].jpgWP_20140330_003[1].jpgWP_20140330_008[1].jpg

You can also use a thru deck cable clam that will waterproof cables thru the floor.

I just stuck it in a big blob of silicon about 1 meter forward of the transom. Shot through the hull just needs a way to remove the air between transducer and hull and hold the transducer in place. Would mark bait at 25 knots.
