    Trim tabs with twin outboards

    Hi all,

I'm looking at installing trim tabs to my boat which currently only has a single outboard but I my current outboard will be up for replacement in about a year and I'm wanting to upgrade to twins. So I was wanting to know if it is worth installing the tabs or just waiting for the twins.

Any experinces with twins and tabs would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Fisho

    Hi Fisho

Tabs and twins are great on my real Seafarer Vagabond for a number of reasons.

Apart from leveling the boat if you use Lencos or Bennetts you also get the benefit of extra bum lift, or I did anyhow, even when they are fully up.

The 9 by 9 Lencos also complement the foils that are fitted to both my motors. With the motors and batteries etc in the tail end the tabs and foils mean that at slow plane in windy chop there is a lot less spray blowing around probably because the bum does sit a couple of inches higher than it used to with out the additions.

    Cheers

Twins are trim tabs within themselves moving one up an other down, place fins on them and they have a greater effect over both at same ratio for nose up and down in the same ratio when you lock them together after the sideways thing
in saying that I have trim tabs and twins, learn to use a bit of both and you can get a very balanced boat at sea especially in big seas and chop, using the motors with fins for sideway balance and tabs for keeping nose up or down

    hope this makes sense

    cheers

I also have tabs and twins and highly recommend them.
Twins alone work pretty well but together they are great.
Take some getting use to though

Most twin motor setups on a mono will benefit from trim tabs, the motors are set close together so as such, do not have anywhere near the same effect as tabs, which are set near the outer sides of the transom.
