After going to the BCF Club night at Nerang last night I headed home, hitched up the boat and made my way to the Biggera creek ramp, hitting the water around 10.30...
With a tip off to the whereabouts of some quality muddies, and with an order from the Minister of Everything that she was getting sick of sandies I headed to spot X, Deployed the pots with half a mullet in each then back to the seaway to fill in some time waiting for the sparrows to fart.
The tide was running in by this time so made myself comfy in my usual spot, got some baits in the water and had a feed. While I was sitting there taking in the night, there was a few bust up's happening around me.
On my bait rod I had a small SP that I had been using to catch pike with, so I pelted that out but no hook ups so I changed to a small Halco Twisty 15g. I waited for the next bust up and dropped it right in the middle of the boil. Half a dozen winds and im onto a 45cm bigeye. No big deal but on 6lb line it was fun. After a couple of minutes of doing the dance he was netted, dehooked and back in to grow some more.
With the bigger baits, i had a couple of half hearted run but nothing to get to excited about...
By this time the sun was starting to rise so a motored out to the bait grounds SE off the seaway. Not a lot of action till around 6am when I seen the first mack get boated. As I was heading in that general direction there was a bust up right in front of me so I quickly tied on a Halco streaker 55g and trolled past the boil. bang im on!!! in comes a 5kg spotty.. ok well thats pretty easy lets try that again.
Puttered around waiting for the next boil and did the same with the same result. Next one I had forgotten to flick the bait runner lever and got smashed by the first run.
By this time it was around 7am and the bust ups stopped so knowing I had pots to check I headed back in.
Lifted the pots and had 13 of the biggest jennies I had ever seen, two of them had barnacles growing on the tops of their shells. so out of 15 crabs only two made it to the boiler this morning..
When I got back to the ramp another guy was just getting his boat out of the water and he had been down to mermaid floating pillies and bagged out.
my donger I made last week came in handy
cheers
wayne.
