Question North Pine River deep water bend

I live just up the road from deep water bend and itching for a fish and wanted to know if anyone has had much luck there lately. I heard it was producing poor results for awhile but haven't heard of it getting any better. Has anyone had luck recently and if so on what bait and setup?

edit: I plan on going tomorrow around 5pm and catch the run in tide till 6:30pm.

M8 Prawns are on the run at the moment and where there are prawns there are bream.

I was in there two weeks ago with plastics. The action was not great but did manage two nice flatties about 55 and 65cm for a feed from three hours flicking. I was using paddle tails mostly, but at the moment I would be flicking Squidy Wild Prawns because there are so many of them in the river currently.

Best results was in the south Pine up towards the part where it goes back to natural river again. Both flatties came from 5 metres or deeper.

Avoid the cast netters areas would be also a good point to make.

If you are going to fish bait, cast net some small live prawns and use them for big summer whiting at the moment, they are in reasonable numbers in the South Pine between the big shed and the Junction. Thread the small live prawns on the hook like you would a dead prawn, they won't last long anyway.

    Nice work Shawn.

Is there anywhere along deep-water bend to net some prawns? I don't exactly have access to a boat (under renovations). So being land based kinda limits me unfortunately. what size net do you need for prawns?

    Mate ,
There are far better qualified blokes than me to answer any questions on net size . However I did notice yesterday they were getting some prawns off the floating pontoon.

That's all good, I don't exactly have the funds to shell out for a new net that's the 'correct' size anyway so I'll have a quick go with what I have then move on to plastics if i can't catch anything to use as bait.

Is there any time that is better for netting prawns?

First hour of the runout tide seems to be best, from what I have seen

I'll be there today from about an hour before to an hour after high so that should be good. might get there a little later as I forgot to prepare the gear before heading to work

if you are going to net from the pontoon, make sure you have at least 15 metres of rope.
Dad reckons fishing is 10% brains and 95% muscle, the rest is just good luck.

Does it get that deep there? I am not actually sure how much rope is on my net, I will check before I start. From memory its probably about 15m.

Re: North Pine River deep water bend

Yes it is deep and there is at least one snag there

Re: North Pine River deep water bend

About 12 metres deep on a big tide, many lead lines down there also

The Pine (Next to the highway) was good as the tide began to run harder. Not much happened for a start (at high tide) Pero (AKA prawnin pete) bagged out . And... you want a nice heavy net. 3.7metre with at least 6kg weight. They pay for themselves quickly in the deeper holes. But don't even dream of throwing a good net at DWB.

Thanks for all the info guys, I got down there around 530 (630 high tide) started with a soft plastic of one of the timber structures with no luck then went to the floating pontoon as the tide was turning to try some cast netting (technique is a little rusty) also with no luck (one tiny squid about 4cm that went on the line with ink allover my hand and an 8cm mud crab who would not let go of the net). I may have caught a case of dengi, ross river and malaria all in one night though the mozzies were out in force. It's a reminder to always have a can of bushmans or aerogaurd with you when you go fishing.

Two other blokes turned up around 700 casting live mullet and shrimp with not much luck either. One caught an eel and nothing from hist cast netting either.

There were some asian men there who looked to be catching under-sized bream, I didn't see him throw them back but I wasn't sure what he was doing with them so I didn't even talk to the water police who where around. Should I have? all the ones I saw seemed to be between the 10-15cm size.
