    Have I wired this correctly?

gday, went about replacing a toggle switch on my main switch board that operates my live bait pump. I replaced it with an illuminated orange plastic one (see left of photo one). This was so i could see it was on when it was illuminated. i thought it was going to to be a rather simple affair of just reconnecting the terminals. But no everything that seems way too simple ends up in mind riot. The difference between the two switches was this one had an extra spade connection to operate the light inside it. So i bought another terminal, wire etc and went about wiring it it into the power wire. That didn't work for some reason. I tried a few combinations and the ground wire connected to the negative bus bar made the live bait pump and the light was on. all good. wired it up and it blew fuse. i tried it three times only to blow the fuse three times. 15amp fuse. I'm a bit out of my league here and dont really know where to go from here. Does anyone know why I'm blowing my fuses??.

the red wire from the top goes the pump. The wire from the bottom comes from the battery i believe. The other wire i grounded to the bus bar.

It sounds like you have the wire to the pump and the neutral wire on the wrong terminals, when you switch it on you are making a connection between active and neutral which is giving you a dead short and therforeblowing the fuse.

On the switch itself it should usually have the terminals marked as C for common, which goes to your active bus bar, 1 which goes to your pump and N or something else which is your neutral.

Looking at the photos I think the neutral wire should be on the middle terminal.

thanks marto. I will give it a go. the switch from the 'top' shows power which i assume a wire from the battery should go in, then a symbol that I assume represents a light which I assume is the light for the switch, and then on the bottom it says 'ground' which I assume is earth.
    cheers
