gear for fnq
Doing a trip up fnq/weipa on a mothership with some mates and just seeing peoples opinions on gear. I have most types of setups except the heavy gear.
Types of fishing will be some estuary/river fishing for barra/threadfin etc.
And also I'm assuming some reef fishing. Both bottom bashing, casting & some trolling.
What i was planning on doing was only bringing 2 setups:
- 5-10kg Barra rod or my 4-7kg snapper rod with my 5000 Stradic (i have 2 spools here so can maybe double up functions with different line weights)
- For the heavier setup i was looking for people opinions.. I don't want anything stupidly heavy, something I can cast easy enough but still be able to have had a chance if i get on to something decent. And not too long it becomes unmanageable on the boat. Id love to bring with me a setup for every situation but I'm looking to make a decent compromise and just bring the one heavier setup.
Im leaning to possibly getting like a light Popper setup. Something around the 15-20kg (rather than the heavier 24+kg rods) rod weight and a 10000 reel size (hopefully also have a couple of spools with 30lb-60lb). Something i can throw lures up to around 150g. With about 7'-8' length.
So.. for the rods.. Options I've seen are obviously Tcurve revolution, Ocea and Blue water, Daiwa saltiga/demon blood/monster mesh, or i did see Okuma have a couple options there too if anyone has any opinions on them?
Hoping this setup can then also double up with i come back down here to NSW as a heavy kingfish setup give or take..
So any advice would be great. Cheers!!

The T curve deep jig 200 casts poppers surprisingly well which is a big bonus when talking about versatility. It's a great 50lb bottom fishing rod so for what you are after I reckon you will be happy with that. Chuck a decent spin reel like a 10000 Saragosa, one of the new penn spinfishers or the like and you'll get the job done nicely.

I have two deep jig 200's both with heavy spin reels, I live just south of Weipa and these two rods handle anything thrown at them.
