The Fly -
I've googled North west island as this sort of trip would be awesome.
It doesn't look the best for my 6.5m fibreglass boat though as the anchorage is quite a way out at low tide. Is that correct?
I see photos where tinny's are just dragged up the beach which makes it less worrying..

When I was there we camped on the island where the edge of the reef is nearest. The reef is shaped a bit like a fish, and the island is the fishes eye, so it's quite near the edge of the reef at one point.

Is a great place. Best week's camping I ever had.

If you've got a tinny and like camping, try North West Island. We've been 4 times for 15 days each time and had a blast. Great camping with no mozzies or sandflies about, and good fishing the surrounding reefs for sweetlip, reds, trout, trevors, mackies............you name it. A bit of an effort to get all your gear there but well worth it.

Just don't put your tent near a mutton bird runway, but I agree, beautiful place. Only been there once unfortunately.

I've been on the Night Crossing 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years, never had another charter come close. These guys are professional in looking after your needs, good food, accomadation, dories, deckies. $2700 leave Gladstone Sat arvo, arrive back the following Sat morning before sun up. mothership is cleaned top to bottom twice a day and the maintenance on the vessel is impeccable. They fillet or clean your catch and snap freeze twice a day, you can fish off the mother ship at night, there is the Skip, the cook and 3 deckies. Aircon in the dining and cabins and a very tight run opperation. Oh and they have kegs as well.
