Re: Sea Trek 59 Hundred Supersport. My new boat.

Hi all. The boat build is now complete, with just some internal fit out, final hookup of the motors and instruments, and canopies, clears and cushions to go, so the launch is not too far away.

Chimo. The Voyager cats were not one of the boats that I looked at. This is not meant as a slight against them, but simply I was not aware that they existed. I do not recall ever seeing one, and being a cat fan, I would have noticed it if I had of come into contact with one. I'm sure they would be advertised and promoted through industry magazines, but apart from Bush N Beach and Qld Fishing Monthly, I do not buy any of the periodical fishing or boating mags these days so would not get to see any promotional material on these boats. My fault, no one elses. Do you know whether it is possible to have a first hand look at one? Even though I'm no longer in the market, I always love to look over a good boat. It would be nice to see one on display at the Brisbane Boat Show later this year.

FisHard. The trailer is finished and is a work of art. I am really impressed with it. Will be running Alko axles and suspension, with 14 inch light truck tyres, so it should tow nicely behind the 4WD. I will put up some better photos of the trailer in the next lot of photos.

A few more shots of the progress:

Another front on shot. The targa bar and canopy rails are on. The targa is a fold down assembly. When finished, it will be a matter of unclipping the clears and side curtains, undo 4 nuts and remove the bolts, and the canopy and targa will fold back so that the top of the screen is the highest point of the boat. This is to allow it to be stored in my existing shed.

Rear shot. The Suzis are bolted on, rear rails and step through rails in place. Targa holds 8 rods as well as the VHF and stereo/radio aerials. Also anchor light, rear facing LED flood light and LED deck light are in place. The pick up for the saltwater deck wash is mounted beside the starboard pod.

Close up - port side rear. The inlay in the tansom is to allow the motor to be trimmed right up without worrying about hitting the cowl on the hull. Great for those times when the newby deckies manage to wrap a heap of 50lb braid around the prop, and you need to be able to untangle without the fear of taking a swim. Squid / live bait attractor lights are mounted on the rear of each pod.

The entertainment lounge, Fusion MS-IP700i stereo for playing Pink Floyd music the only way it should be played - loudly, and the VHF radio for telling tall stories to surrounding fishos. Also a good sized glove box for keeping the important gear out of the weather.

Looking into the port side pod. The wire is for the bait attractor light on the rear of the pod, and the transducer is a through hull 1 kilowatt Airmar B164 with zero degree offset.

    Cheers

I'm a big fan of these boats. Yet to ride in one but they look to perform real well in the chop.

The boat got a visit from the sticker guys at North Coast Signs last week, and I think the results are pretty impressive. Got to tow the boat home last Wednesday and happy to say it towed along behind the Patrol very nicely. Once home, the brother and I grabbed a couple of drinks, sat in the boat and tested the stereo. First song? Pink Floyds "Welcome to the Machine".

Ran the outfit over the public weighbridge at Caboolture on Friday. With no fuel in the tanks, and no other gear in the boat, it came in at 2.2t. I will do a reweigh once the final bits are done, with fuel tanks and water tank full, together with all ground tackle and general fishing gear included, but I reckon it will top out at around 2.8t.

    Boat name done.

Stern shot - Reelax seats in place. Going with a Furuno FCV-587 sounder to go with the Airmar B164 transducer. Using a Lowrance HDS10 as the plotter.

Hooked the boat up to the vehicle, and stopped just down the road for a couple of full boat shots. First the boat on its own.

Boat and vehicle together. Soon to be doing plenty of kilometres up and down the Qld coastline.

I will get a few measurements together in the next few days and post up for those who requested them. As to getting it into my shed, in the immortal words of Maxwell Smart "missed by that much". With the Targa collapsed down, the windscreen is 4cms higher than the opening of the garage door. Time to get a shed builder in to do some renovations.

Sluuurp... Sorry, just wiping the drool off my chin...

Great looking boat you've got there, makes the patrol look small hey.
Are you going to fit any sort of stone deflector on the trailer for all those km's your gonna be doing up coastline?

Jeff, that machine is something to be really proud of. The lines are so smooth it looks fast standing still.
There is definitely something special about building a boat from scratch. The planning, excitement & nerves - and this is before she gets wet!!!
Not sure if your garage is manual or automatic, but I've found there are adjustments in the door openers which may give you more clearance. You probably thought of this already......
I'm looking forward to some on water pics so we can see the water line. Let me know if you need a man on the camera - Anytime, anyplace.
    Cheers

Can you let the tyres down to lower it those 4 cm??

Re: Sea Trek 59 Hundred Supersport. My new boat.

Darren. Have had to wipe a fair bit of drool off the boat in the last couple of days. It is now at Rays Canvas and Marine at Caboolture getting the soft works done. Quite a few people been looking over it, and pleased to say that all comments have been very favourable, and that includes comments from a couple of other brand boat builders as well.

Dan. Can get the height required from the roller door without any problems. It is the actual framework around the door that needs to be lifted to give me the extra clearance to ensure the boat goes into the shed without scraping the windscreen. There have been a few suggestions including looking at low profile tyres on the trailer, but I think just going the extra height is the best solution.

Upstart. There is certainly clearance to be had by letting the tyres down, but not really a long term solution, and almost a guarantee that at some stage, I would forget to do it and put the boat into the top of the door framework and do some damage to it. Neighbours would then get to see why the boat is named Short Fuse.

I still think we need a picture of the round roadrunner sytle ACME bomb witht the short burning fuse on the side Jeff. You never know, it could just appear there one day.......
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Looks good there Short fuse the builders did not muck around putting it all together for you a very fast build, have fun.

Re: Sea Trek 59 Hundred Supersport. My new boat.

Hey Grant. The ACME bomb would be a good inclusion in the name. Never thought of that when talking to the signwriter.

Chris69. The time of the build was a bit longer than these photos suggest. Al started laying up the mould in early November last year, and it was finished early last week. There was a bit of time off over Christmas / New Year, but the usual build time for a complete package is 3 months.

Re: Sea Trek 59 Hundred Supersport. My new boat.

    Hi all.

Just updating the final progress of the build of my new boat, and posting the last few photos bringing the update through to the launch stage.

After collecting the boat from Sea Trek Marine, I took the boat to Ray Wessels at Ray's Canvas and Marine at Caboolture. Ray and his crew did the soft furnishings for me, and I am extremely happy with the results. They did the canopy, clears, side curtains, bunk cushions and the seat cushions on the ice box lids.

    Rays work:

    Seat cushion:

Bunk cushions are 1.8 metres long, 800mm wide and are 75mm thick so very comfortable to lie down on:

After Ray had finished his work, the boat then went to Motorsport Marine at Burpengary for the final fit up of the outboards control cables and other wiring as needed. Al Broughton at Sea Trek Marine ran the wiring looms and also wired in all the pumps, lights and other electronics with Keith and the crew from Motorsport Marine finishing off the last bits:

I think this is a very good example of wiring up a boat - everything neat and tidy and easy to access if needed:

Port side wiring for the radio and stereo. The 60 litre fresh water tank can be seen tucked in the alcove to the right.

Deck lighting consists of two blue LED lights mounted in the side pockets. They throw a nice light onto the deck giving plenty of light to tie hooks, de hook fish and do most other work without destroying night vision. This can then be augmented by a white LED deck light mounted under the Targa bar, and further by a 9 LED deck spot mounted on the Targa as well, so there is more than enough lighting to cover most night time activities.

Finally, we took her down to Scarborough Boat Harbour on Friday morning and launched the boat for the first time.

For those who wanted some measurements, the back deck measurements are 1.6 metres from back of boxes to inside transom, and 1.9 metres across the deck (inside measurement) side to side.
The walkthrough between the seat boxes is 500mm wide so plenty of room to move around without bumping into each other.

Only put 2 hours on the motors for the initial run, but the boat jumps onto the plane very easily, sitting on 16 knots at 3000 revs, and 23 knots at 4000 revs. I let the boat settle on a 4000 rev run heading into a 15 knot head sea. The boat ran beautifully, and according to the Garmin GMI 20 guages, at 23 knots each motor was burning 14 litres per hour.

Bumped into the guys from Origin Boats who were testing a new boat for a client from Melbourne. They had the camera man from Bris 31 television station with them, and he kindly took a heap of photos of my boat underway and is going to get them through to me in the next week or so. We then took him onboard, so the he could take a heap of photos of the Origin Boat as well. Had a great couple hours playing in the new boat. Cant wait to get the run in completed and get the chance to stretch it legs and see how she handles in the real stuff.

I will post a few figures of the boats performance through the entire rev range after the next run.

    cheers

    Jeff

Looking the goods Jeff! Interesting to see the internal measurements are very similar to the 2100. I had in my head they were alot bigger...

Now all that is left is a race

    Congrats mate & enjoy...
