Decided to take the Tinny out on monday as the wind was playing the game and conditions were looking good.Launched in the logan river at 10.30am, got to a fishy looking spot heaps of water moving around so I sat back for a few minutes and found a side eddy just off the main flow so I dropped anchor.Cut 2 baits out of a recently acquired eel, threw one rod out the back far and the other off the other side close in. Within 3 minutes of fishing one rod starts to get a few little nibbles so I'm thinking just pickers then all of a sudden the rod screams off 1 million miles an hour going thru my other line. The rate in which the line was screaming off the reel I knew this was a good fish.so I had to reel in my other line whilst untangling it and fighting the fish, managed to do so quickly but I had no control over this fish. Was still taking off line from the first massive run. Was a scary sight when I saw my backing on my 4000 size diawa reel (especially when I had no idea what pound line it was),there was nothing I could do to bring this thing towards my so after a good 10 minutes into the fight I made the decision to pull up anchor and give chase. Was quite interesting trying to hold the rod between my knees and haul up 2 small concrete blocks I use as an anchor as the logan river it lined with mud and my normal anchor doesn't grab.) Another 30+minutes of getting some line back and trying to take control of the fight insisted. It Must have done about 15 circles around the boat trying to make my dizzy and snap me off on my prop. I was feeling some big head shakes so I started getting excited and just hopeing that the line and leader would hold up.Using an old Jarvis walker rod with not much pulling power 25lb(braid)mainline,3 foot 40lb black magic leader ,tied to a 18inch long 40lb wire trace and a 6/0 circle hook.
Every time I got this thing within a meter from the surface It would just pull back down deep nothing I could do about It. When I eventually started to take control of the fight and caught a glimpse of the size of this fish I knew it was a big Bull Shark so I made the decision to tow/guide the shark to the nearest boat ramp (1 kilometer in reverse 45 minutes later)and I had made it to the boat ramp.
PB= Bull Shark 1.4m long I don't no how heavy but there was some weight there.
luckily a fellow fisherman putting his boat in helped me out with a few happy snaps. Took a good 10 minutes to reviv getting some water moving through its mouth then slowly it swam back to the murky depths of the logan river when it calls home.funily enough I do see people swimming in the water only meters away from where I hooked this Shark(crazy I say)
End result one Happy Fisherman
Cheers Bron
