South Bribie 10/2
Hadn't been for a fish in almost 4 weeks so hitched the tinny up and headed for Bribie yesterday arv. Got to the ramp at 3.30pm for a 6.00pm ish high, and with only 5 trailers at the ramp. Wind was from the SE about 10-12kts and going down under the Bridge was pretty smooth and nice. Continued out into the Bay with a bit of a SE swell towards my favourite piece of steel in the middle of an otherwise semi-barren underwater landscape.
Was trolling a Rob Gaden Warlock on my new 8-12kg T-Curve matched with my 15 year old Daiwa "Slosh" (SL20SH) when, first pass, a buzzing ratchet signalled something hungry had taken a liking to the lure some 4m down.
A quick tussle revealed a small spottie of 60cm or so but then nothing else on subsequent passes of the structure.
Changed to a 20g Halco Twisty and cast next to the post and let it sink before it got nailed as it left the bottom at high speed, another smaller mack of around 55cm this time.
Next cast got bitten off and said a quick farewell to a 35g Spanyid Raider, so upped leader to 60lb Black Magic Fluorocarbon and lost that metal too, this time a Pink Raider.
Changed tack to a whole pillie with a small ball sinker on its nose to get it down to the zone but after a few brief hookups and bite-offs decided to pull up stumps as I had no gangs on board and plus the swell was getting more annoying each time I was motoring back uptide for another drift. End result about 8-2 to the Macks. Was a great possibly hour and a half bite and an awesome adrenaline rush which is why spinning metals is one of my favourite methods of fishing. Love the way everything just goes solid in a split second. It's like a drug that I found myself yearning for again before I was even back at the ramp...Ooh how I still miss spinning off the rocks.
What a great way to spend an arvo, had the boat washed, the motor flushed, and cracked me first CC & Dry by 7o'clock.
Cheers
