    Finally.. A fish

Went to the north side of coochie for a fish yesterday. Got there about 4pm, set up for a drift with squid on my Penn and resurrected cheap Chinese baitrunners.

The weather was fantastic, a very small swell, and about 5 knot wind. The sky was a grey slate color. Looked like a fantastic day for a fish.

Took about 5 minutes, and the line took off. I was using a 6/0 circle rig with a whole small squid, and it was a big run. I set the hook, and thought I had the snapper of my dreams, but no. It was a shark, just under a metre, don't know what kind, but it made a strange croaking noise. This fish was so strong, but I did want to get the hook out, but while I was fiddling with the pliers, the other line went off.

This time it was a nice snapper, my pb at 51cm. Lovely fish.

I thought I was in for the session of all sessions, but that was it for the big guys, so I headed around to the Red Buoy for the dusk and tide change
There wasn't much happening there, lots of small stuff, but plenty of time for me to start teaching my non-fishing partner the circle-hook baitrunner mantra: 'We don't get excited until the reel goes 'zzzzzzzzzzz''. That was until I put my very heavy chair on her toe. But, like any other caring person, I took the time to drop her on the beach so she could limp home to put ice on her damaged foot.

I didn't get another big hit for the rest of the night, but I had my 2500 Ci4 reel with light line on a Pfleuger Triton rod in the boat, so I decided to give that a go. I caught a myriad of small bream, snapper and Moses Perch, which was great fun on the light gear. I wound up with one keeper, a Grass Emperor of about 30cm, which was a fun tussle.

It was a great night. And the wind stayed light. What a welcome change.

Congrats on the new PB. A feed in decent conditions is a great way to spend the evening. Good job taking out the competition early when you thought the fish were going to be on, that is forward thinking

Must be nice fishing in good conditions, sounds like a nice day. What happened to the forecast for this weekend? It was looking great! I announced I was going for broke out the the 100 mtr mark, that's what happened! Nothing wrong with a bay snap and fun with the Moses perch fingerlings.

Of course, I went out for dawn on Monday, fished everywhere, came in at 11.30, and not a bite.

Oh well, still got a fillet in the fridge.

I have never caught one, so do not know. But apparently there's a healthy population of them around Coochie .

Gday peter, I used to do well in the past along the western side of peel just up from south west rocks drifting north in the 12-16 foot depth range..

Good onya Peter for that Snapper, awesome mate. Wouldn't mind tangling with them Grassies too, there are supposed to be the odd ones up my way at the mo.

Mate, I'll take that on board, but it's so damn windy that my little tinnie won't get me there.
