    ally boat trailer

    Hi all has anyone got a ally trailer under there boat and how much?,my boats just on 5mts,and is it made from I beam or box on the main rails.

    There's a guy on the north side who imports US alloy trailers, I'm sure he's on here but don't know his name. Look in the business section on this forum

    I have one under my 5.8m plate. I built it from 150x 50 mm box, and 200 x 50 box. I gusseted all joints with 4mm plate. It is 7 years old now, and never had a problem. All roller brackets and winch post are galvanised steel. There is virtually no electrolyis between aluminium and galvanised iron. Aluminium and zinc are next to each other on the galvanic table. I think I have uploaded a pic of the trailer . The winch post on it is the original alloy one, which was not a success, and bent while we were first loading the boat onto it. I then fitted it with a steel post.

    Thanks for that Dave great to here what you did to build it and how the gal bits work with the ally,what did it cost you back then?

    Hi, Leigh, the box section was 3mm. In 2006, I think it cost me about $2500 to build with the rollers, which are bloody dear!
