Thread: Snapper half pillie rig?

    Re: Snapper half pillie rig?

    Nick.

I have not experience the 7766s separating, but I do make sure that the eye has closed right up when I join the rigs together, and I always test them by trying to twist them apart before I consider them ready to use.

    Smithy.

I agree that the snelled rig is a good one as well, but I ahve found when fish are picky, they can pull the pilly off a snelled rig without hooking up. I agree on the use of fluro tubing and beads on my snapper rigs. I have not put tubing above the sinker, but regularly use it on the line that runs between the hooks in a snelled rig. Apart from being good as an attractant, it helps with ensuring big snapper dont bite through the line during the struggle after hookup.

Hope you are getting plenty of charters in despite the crappy weather.

    cheers

    Jeff

I've just started using fluoro tube by day and night smithy, so far the results are inconclusive but I'll give it a bit more time. I am a fan of a bit of heatshrink over the snood, it gives teeth resistance and lengthens the life of the rig. Forum member JTPython taught me that one.

That is one thing I have picked up from gun Gold Coast snapper fishos who love using the McCubbin glow sinkers down there and guys like John Gooding etc. who like to use a lot of flouro in their rigs as well.

Yeah I'm a fan of the butterfly fillet bait, helps resist pickers too. Same with hussar fillets here with the tail left on and hussar wings on top. The yellow seems to help, or at least that's what we think. I've got to get Better though at splitting the tail, I'm completely shit at it lol.
