nice one mate!
Decided to chase a few more muddies last friday with my mate and fish the high tide at sunset. Headed to the usual spot after dropping off the pots and collecting some livies. Live bait was easy to come by and after a few casts up a drain we netted mullet and several good size prawns. Anchored up around 5 pm and dispatched live prawns out one side and a live mullet out the other. My mate had shop squid out one side and a live mullet out the other.
After about 15 minutes my mates rod with the live mullet bent over but he did not get a hook up. The mullet was chewed in half when he retreived it. Then my rod with the live prawns took off. Called it a catfish and it was. Soon after my mates rod with a livey ticked over slowly and then managed to pull up a keeper crab. Nothing for about 15 or so minutes and then my rod buckled over with the live prawns and at first the fish came easy to the boat. Just as I was about to see colour it took off and after several long runs this 79 cm King Threadfin was landed. Have caught a few over the years but this is my first for SEQ. Pickers and crabs finished off the rest of the live bait. I might change to a patanoster rig (?) to get the bait off the bottom.
Checked pots around 8 pm for a number of keepers and the only other good run was on slice fresh mullet but no hook up. Called it around 10.00pm as tide was rushing out and no bites for some time. Managed 11 keepers for the night. No big muddies but keepers were full. Alot more Jennies this time with a 'big mother' that seamed to be in every second pot.
