Thumbs up Variety in the bay

    Hi All

It has been a Long time since I posted as fishing has taken a back seat to other family commitments.

I managed to get out on Sunday morning in the bay just off Lota with my 6yo daughter and her school friend and his Dad (the skipper).

Second cast and I was hooked up and it was taking drag. I got it close to the boat and saw the shape and colour and made the call that it was an estuary cod. Another little run and then it was in the net ......... a bloody great big toad. I put the prawn in the picture for scale.

A change of location a few hundred metres and a bit more action. My daughter's friend caught a 25cm bream which went in the esky. Then my daughter was on to a good fish and landed a 24cm tarwhine which was released to grow a bit more.

A few small bream and tarwhine followed and then I hooked up to a good fish that ran to the other side of the boat. With the canopy up I was not able to chase it an the hooks pulled after a run of about 40 metres.

My daughter was on again and she landed her longest fish to date a 35c garfish which took a liking to her prawn. It went in the esky too. I haven't eaten gar before but it was very nice despite the small bones.

The skipper then had a good run and fought the fish for a few minutes while I grabbed the net ony to be disappointed again when a stingray appeared by the boat.

While we only finished with 2 keepers was a fun day.

    Thanks for reading.

    Chris.

Have been catching a few Bream and Sweetlip at Macleay and a heap of Moses Perch. Only a few were around 30cm. Last time never caught a single squire at all.

Yes, I haven't put up reports, because I haven't caught anything apart from undersized squire. However, I did see a guy with a big spottie the other day. I asked where he got it, and he said, " out there", pointing east from Coochie. There is, however, a lot of water there.
