On another note, i have purchased the solas propeller late thursday ( midnight, after i tested the boat and gave it a clean) , and all i have recieved is the automated order confirmation message. I know im asking a bit much for them to ship friday, but does anyone have ETA's for solas products once you place your order (so i can plan my wek around it next week hopefully).

My boat planes easily. I have had 4 adults and all the camping gear and food with bowmount etc... and still plane and get 5500RPM flat out.

Planing is never an issue. My boat is not fast but I don't feel underpowered if that makes sense.

Is the new prop you've ordered Aluminium or S/S?

its an Aluminum one, my pocket are not deep enough at the moments to go for a ss one (i dont know if i can justify the price to be honest as i do beach the boat a lot etc and would worry about damaging the prop)

That's understandable! Stainless Steel is very durable and you would have to deliberately hit something extremely hard to bend the blades of a Stainless. Good Luck with the performance of the new prop? Cheers!

Ok, im back from the test out, here s what happened.

I have loaded the rear of the boat (where the back seats are) with ~150kg of lead, batteries, hand tools, eskys filled with water etc and went with the wife for a spin in calm conditions (this simulated 4 people on board).

The boat gets on the plane as quick as the previous setup did WITHOUT the added weight so im very happy with the outcome there. Top end wise, i am hitting 6000rpm before what i believe is WOT (the outboard has a limiter i believe) at around 48km/hr. obviously midrange, i can hear the engine working to keep a plane (rpms increased for a specific speed), but that was the tradeoff as expected.

So the question is, where do i go from here? having bought the prop from solas i could send it back and ask their opinion on which way to go, (maybe a pitch up? or will they reduce diameter? who knows), or should i be happy with whats there? (i know the prop will be unsuitable for a 2 person run based on these results which means that i will need to be switching props whenever i decide to take guests on board or going just by myself and the wife and im not exactly looking forward to that).

also, now that the prop has been changed, i have noticed a change in vibrations but also a noise coming from the engine at specific rpms, i will start a new thread about that though...

Yeah I reckon definitely ring Solas and ask them for another suggestion and get them to send another more suitable prop. It's a bit of trial and error but they should be able to suggest another prop. Maybe something with more cupping and rake in the same pitch??
I'm no expert just thinking out loud.

Re: Coastrunner470 and Yamaha f60 prop choice?

Well i rang solas on Tuesday morning to explain the situation and they recommended the 12 pitch to try it out, they sent it that day and it was at my door midday on Wednesday! I have since mailed them the 11p prop back. I really cant fault the customer service!

I gave the 12p a run with myself and the wife (no extra weight on board) and i cant believe how quickly on the plane i can get up + im getting more top end speed! i have not tried it loaded up with extra weight but i think im at a healthy compromise here.

Im still holding onto the original Yamaha 13pitch prop (they are all around 11.5 inch diameter props mind you) in case i want to go alone (which i never do).

Osprey, those figures you have quoted for the 12pitch are almost exactly what im getting out of the 12 pitch with myself and the wife + some gear on board (sometimes the tacho reads 6000rpm but its flicking between the two). The main problem i wanted t overcome was the getting up to plane with 2 more on board and i think this will solve the issue!
