    7-0 at Curtain

Headed over to Curtain yesterday morning. Left Port of Brisbane around 2 to a sloppy crossing to tje beacons. Tried to raise some bait to no avail wo headed to the wharf at Tangas and luckily there was the usual Pike population so filled up on livies.

Headed up to Curtain hoping to find some Snaps. Anchored up and deployed the first two livies in the dying current and started to berley. Within then minutes the Stradic took off like a freight train with a massive hit and run. My deckie fought the fish for a while both was busted off a a final run. 1 -0.

2-0 and 3-0 happened in a similar fashion despite going to 60lb leader and bigger hooks. The Pike were getting smashed!

4-0 was an epic fight bythe deckie on his TLD for around an hour with a truly , assive fish that would not even have a bar of fill drag and after trying to haul it in, another bustoff.

We headed back to Tangas for more livies and tried to fihure out what to do next. So 80lb leader and a metal trace went on one of the rods whilst 60lb went on the other.

5, 6 and 7-0 then happned in a similar fashion as before. I came close a couple of times but we were still smoked after a last massive run.

A couple of consolation snaper where also boated but I must say it was agreat day that makes me want to go back with bigger and badder tackle.

I want to see what these unstoppables are!

I've had a few sessions like that on Curtain and they are very frustrating but they keep you coming back.

I'm yet to fish curtain but I'm pretty keen to get over there an get my arms stretched. Some times not catching a fish makes you makes you want to come back for even more.

Between 20lb and 40lb over 4 lines. We upped leaders from 40 to 60 to 80 to 100

    I will be back there!

Great job to have such a long 1 hour fight with this main line class there.

Normally our hook ups last anywhere from 3-60 seconds for lost fish or to 3-4 minutes max for a landing.

Large fish will head straight into wrecks and cut off the line hence such sort fights.

    All the best

Max what have they normally been when you have got them to the boat? I suspected Kings or Cobia

Go back with 80lb braid and 100lb leader, lock up the drag, hang on and get up them big cobes or kings. There are some big gropers there too so it could be them depending on how they fought. Cobes will go pretty fast while the gropers will go a bit slower.

    All kings.
Its actually very hard to get a consistent bite session there.
Curtains is very quick on and the rest is off place.
Fishing last 3 years continuously there with nothing landed most of the trips.
I was loosing all the hope about the place until recently.

Last time we were there, drifted for solid 7 hours out of 12 hours fishing trip, hard work not even a single bite all day until the last part of the last drift, go figure.
Couple of times before score was 15-nil to kings.

I use 60lb mono, same line as the leader, sufficient most of the time.
If you can turn kings head immediately for the first 2-3 runs than there is a slight chance of landing.
Most of our hook ups only last 3-5 secs.
Full drag locked, hand on the reel, hang on.

Checking your snapper pic there, nice fish.
    You look half Turkish.

Also you need a lot of ice, king will spoil badly if not in a very cold slurry immediately.
Just had some last night, beautiful to eat with my dearest friend RAKI.

Hey Max thanks for the advise. What size were the kings?

Not Turkish but from around the same area

    Cheers

Whenever I chased kings I used a tyrnos 30 with 80lb braid and 120lb leader. Very rarely got smoked

I recon kings for sure, and they love the pike.

    Re: 7-0 at Curtain

I would say mainly kings, we seem to only get in the small ones at 10-20kg, but there is some real monsters down there, your one hour fight I dont think was a king tho, as max said kings are dirty fighters and will go straight for structure, maybe a longtail tuna to fight that long?
And dont feel too bad, we have had quite a few successive trips with alot more than 15nil. I remember Max saying "I hate curtin never fishing there again" lol
Have watched so many others use braid and get done or pull hooks, I like to use 70-80lb mono for the stretch factor as it seems to be a fine line between locking the drag completely and pulling the hook and letting them run to structure and busting off.
I used a tld15 with 55lb mono for years with good success.
