Land Based Whiting in the Broadwater

    Hi all,

I got out and about again at short notice with Max. Max accepted the responsibility to catch whiting for the family for Christmas lunch, and he succeeded. The early part of the ebb tide produced a steady stream of fish with the best at 39 cm and half a dozen over 36 cm. Towards the bottom of the tide, a plague of small tarwhine, squire and diver whiting ensured that there were plenty of bites but it was bait wasted. Alas no dart for Max this time and he had to settle for just whiting.

Such an amazing place the Broadwater where you can fish in the middle of the day, without a boat, and produce a good number of quality fish at various locations.

Gee Daryl, i thought the Broadwater was barren! At least you would think so given the bleating from some people!

Pass on my congratulations to young Max. He is certainly proving to be a most capable young fisherman. Those are great quality whiting you have put him onto.

And Merry Christmas to you, Trish and the family.

    Thanks Grant.

A couple of trips ago, a vociferous guy was fishing there when I got there and told me how it was fished out. He had a general purpose rod with 30 lb line a six ball sinker and what looked like what may have originally been squid for bait impaled on a large hook. His casts were generally but not always in 60 degree arc. After Max caught about 6 legal fish, he packed up his things in a huff and walked off, his no fish myth exploded by a 4 year old.

How embarrassment for that guy - having your butt kicked to the kerb by a 4 year old! You must have struggled to keep from falling over laughing mate!
