I was updating some waypoints in Homeport but noticed that the contour lines have disappeared, just a lovely blue background wherever there is water. What did I inadvertently do and how do I restore the contour lines.

That sounds like you don't have the map SD card in place or its become corrupted when you saved

Horse, I usually keep a complete backup of my WP's on homeport and regularly use homeport to make adjustments, comments etc to them without the need of having an SD caard in place, although I did try it with the card and it works with the navionics G2 card in place but this is not what I would normally do. interestingly the fishing chart is greyed out so I can't select that one, I have also tried the detail level but it was already set at it's highest.
Dignity, have you gone into the "Viewe" dropdown menu and see if yourve got those prefernces turned off??..First thing that pops to my mind..
On the tool bar in the centre there is a drop down list, it will probably say global map, as you have the wrong map selected. Click the button next to the dialogue box and you will get a drop down list, select the map. The fishing chart isn't available when the card is not in a card reader.

Volvo, tried everything in VIEW - as mentioned Fishing Chart is greyed out. At a bit of a loss as to how it happened, thinking of saving the data files and doing a restore.
Honda, Global map is the only one available to me unless I put the navionics card in. In the past I have not had to have any card in the PC to get contours so not sure what has changed. I think the first time I downloaded my WP's it must have copied the contours but now nothing is there even with my downloaded data card inserted, maybe as Horse suggested the data has become corrupted. I will grab a spare card tomorrow and try again and see what eventuates else I will do a restore.
ok, I have worked out part of the problem, when Homeport was installed it created a library on the PC including the built in map for Aust and NZ. this file has become corrupted for some reason, I have copied the file again from the GPS unit but I can't figure out how to get it into my library as it comes up as a "list" icon instead of the "map" icon when I try to copy it from the SD card to the Library file on the PC. Once this file is in its right place the SD card is not required to be able to modify any WP's in the library. I use the library as a back up and retain deleted WP's as well with commentary as to the source of the WP's etc.
Any one any ideas on how to reinstate the file into the Library.
Depending on the operating system version you are running, for a x64 edition of windows 7
C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\HomePort\Maps\Global Application Basemap v2.gmap

Honda, the file placed on the SD card is gmapbltn.img which is why I am struggling. Maybe I need to review the copy process from the GPS unit. There is also a file called GarminDevice which is a xml document with the following info:

It seems that I need to convert the img file into a gmap file, I have done a search on the net and found many converters but they all seem to be concerned with street maps and creating "tiles". Has anyone found a converter that works easily, thanks.
