Launched the tinnie at Pinkenba ramp just on 4pm. For the first time in ages, I was able to run out to my sand crab spot without copping a flogging from the northerlies. So nice to see calm water again.
Dropped the 4 pots in just on 4.30pm and stayed close to ensure they did not get inspected by anyone else. I checked the pots on the top of the tide for 10 good sand crabs. 4 keepers in the first pot, 3 in each of the next 2 pots and the last one a donut. Put them back in the same spots, marked them on the gps and ran back to the river mouth to fish for a while figuring they would be fairly safe in the dark. Caught and released a few reasonable bream from the front wall. Just after 8pm I noticed a few mullet swirling around the boat, so grabbed the cast net and got 7 good sized gold spot mullet, so that takes care of the crab bait situation for the next couple of trips.
Ran back to check the pots at 9pm. The donut pot had 2 good crabs in it, and only 1 more keeper from the rest. Kept the pots on board and headed back to the ramp and on the way home by just after 10. A top evening on the bay.
Have not take any photos as yet. Crabs are on ice for the night. Might line them up for a mug shot in the morning when I get the boat out to wash it.
Also got a phone call from mates Dave and Pete while on the water. They were on the way in from Hutchies. Trolled up 2 spanish, a yellowfin and a yellowtail king, but lost several other good fish to sharks. Said the sharks were savage out there today.
