Lightbulb Best set up for Mobile reception and Wifi at sea.

    Hi all,

Im chasing an alternative for getting mobile and WIFI reception up to 50Nm. I work in the industry and have only ever recommended and installed Ericsson W35's (about $500) with a 9db high gain antenna and mount($200ish) which are awesome and does the job well but is costly for some. I realize many vessels also use amplifiers which I cannot supply (another 500+ for a 1 watt txer) and most of which are not legal. Has anyone used any legal devices that offer good performance and or use an alternative to Ericsson?

    Cheers

The router is neither here nor there, so many good ones around today.....I suspect this is big vessel...cabins and 240v?? anyway the "tiny router" options can cover it all.....what actual type of aerial are you using?....9 db is good but if it's an omni.....a waste of time if chasing long distance....consider a directional like a 16 or the like db Yaggi or even better one of those more square meshed ones (forget their name offhand).....given the large distances you are tying to cover and the curvature even directionals in the end become diffuse across a wide swath of coastline.

I would amp it up too like you say....but I didn't think they where that expensive, when I looked into them they where about 100$....deals extreem had them I think...dunno it's been a couple years since I was interested.
