What bail Roller Bearing for Certate?

I have a couple of 3500 Certates that have noisy line roller bearings, and despite the fact that they have both been professionally serviced, they still make that horrible noise.
I reckon I could have a go at replacing these useless Daiwa bearings with BOCA ones but don't know what size or where to get them from.
Anyone done this or point me in the right direction.... please?

Hi tim, I had the same problem with my sol, I had bearing replaced and straight up it was noisy, took it to tackle world sandgate and got a ceramic bearing put in, noisy again!, I found out I had bearing tightened too much, got some Loctite and tightened nut with Loctite on it so bearing was quite and 3 years later still silent..

Seems like a pretty common failure,

I have had 2 line roller bearings in my Heartland XA4000 replaced, and know of another Sol have had the same done, also the Handle screw cap is a cheap and nasty bit of plastic, not threaded, both reels have broken these.

I just ordered a spare bearing and a couple of plastic screw caps for lack of a decent replacement, that I can find.

Funny, I was told that the certate doesn't have the issue.

Might check with Tackle world on this ceramic bearing..

Order them directly from Boca bearings ( US) though I do believe that Erskines tackle in Cairns are now an agent .
The bearing you are after is

SMR63C-2OS#7 AF2 ( I know because I have one here) ...

approx US$15
it's a shielded ceramic bearing (so it can be serviced) ..... btw this bearing fits most daiwa spin reels of 1500-4000 size .

The line roller bearing corrodes, there is no seal around the bearing and water gets in, simply a bad design, New bearing no noise.. I use braid on mine all the time.

Just ordered a couple of the ceramic Boca ones, Hopefully when they arrive I will never need to replace again..

There is a difference between line noise & the sound of a coffee grinder

the ceramics do address this as they are easily popped out & blown clean with a can of degreaser - re oiled & away you go.
The trouble with the daiwa bearings is that they are semi sealed but over time you get that salt build up and eventually the roughness ...... noise.

I have posted many times regarding the Daiwa line roller bearings, they are simply not up to the design standard that the rest of the reel exhibits. Although most of my reels these days are Shimano I have pretty much overcome the line roller issue apparent with Daiwa. I firstly do a service before the reel gets used from new with the line roller getting special attention. A well known reel service agent taught me this little trick to get much longer life from the line roller bearing. When you service this item clean all the lubricant from the bearing and instead of applying recommended oils to the bearing make a mix of 50 / 50 synthetic oil and a WATERPROOF reel grease. This makes a kind of slurry which is applied to the bearing. Before installation of the bearing place a dob of this goo to either side of the bearing and place it in position. Only tighten the retaining screw enough to hold this with a dob of loctight. The result will be that the slurry oozes out from around the edge of the bearing. Clean up the excess and hey presto the waterproof grease content will repel the water from the bearing and although this is not as it should be it does prolong the life of the bearings x 10. I have a Daiwa certate that is 4 years old running with it's original bearing after doing a heap of work.

and have never had a line roller bearing fail yet just by using lanolin after every fishing trip

Hi Sevric, could you please let me know specifically the synthetic oil & waterproof grease brand you use to make up your "slurry".

Hi Tewantin, I use a 50/50 mix or there about of a SURECATCH GREASE and a synthetic oil from PROTECTA or PENN depending on price and availability. I do not think it matters the brand name so much as the combination of the two.

Nothing beats a good quality bearing to start with Tim I only hope Daiwa will address the problem in the near future. Try the lube idea and let me know your thoughts.
