    Friday 22/11 Moreton

    Hello all,

This is my first fishing report so here goes..

I left cleveland ramp at about 4:30 headed for Moreton. School mackerel were the target of the day. Conditions were perfect.

I had two different paravanes and the downrigger trolling 3" spoons. The yamashita had a makka spoon, the cheap yellow board (can't remember brand) had a 3" halco spoon, and the downrigger had a makka spoon as well.

The tally was 2 schoolies on the yamashita, 7 grinners on the yellow, and 1 grinner on the downrigger. It was the first time I caught something on the downrigger, spewing it had to be a grinner.

Headed up to four beacons and was gonna throw some new 60g jigs I'd recently purchased. When I got there, each beacon already had a boat on it so rather than intrude I hung back a couple of hundred meters and dropped out a floating pillie while I drifted but to no luck.

I think the bait found somewhere to hide cause the sounder looked like a bushfire but nothing seemed to be around chasing them. Keeping an eye on the action at the beacons or lack of it I decided to head for home.

60kph all the way back to the ramp just before lunch, I love days like that. Here's some snaps of our beautiful bay at its best.

    Cheers Nic

That's a nice fish you caught... Do you mind if I use it for bait.

Nice.... I am glad at least someone got to enjoy it out there. Thanks for the good report and beaut pics.

Whack the Enter key now and again and it will be even better....
( Paragraphs make text more readable.... I know we are fishos not authors, but that's a easy tip I think...)

I was at work looking out at the weather knowing the bay was beaut and that the weekend forecast sucked. (Well actually.... it blowed....)

When you fish the beacons do you anchor and then cast at them... or do you cast nearby figuring the big fish are hovering around nearby?

I reckon start a drift a good distance from them. I wouldn't motor right up and drop an anchor, to me that seems like it would put them off.

I throw out a pillie for the drift, then as i float past the beacon smash it with slugs. I keep an eye on the sounder as i go buy, this my give an indication as to what side of the beacon the fish/bait are on.

Personally I don't really anchor at all. I just cover more ground drifting.

    Cheers Nic

If you don't mind me asking, what depth and speed were you trolling?

    I trolled about 4-6 knots.
Depth varied from 6mtrs to 20.
Had the boards set at 6 mtrs deep.

I'm still experimenting, but I reckon I got more grinners going slow in shallow water.

I've got a couple more yamashita boards coming in the post so my plan next time is to experiment running the boards at different depths. My theory is to go deeper as the sun gets higher.

I forgot to mention that the halco spoon on the yellow board got bitten off.
I'll have to check but I think I had 30lb leader on this one while the others had 40lb. I might stick to the 40lb I reckon.
