That's awesome. I have been wondering for years what the fish looked like.
We used to buy fresh grunter fillets from the seafood outlet at Grasstree Beach near Sarina.
Best tasting fish we ever have eaten. Does anyone know their range?
Caught this fella up North last week in an amazing untouched river system.
Cheers

Do tell, my ceiling walking porcine friend...,
How come Javelin?
Whatever they were they were great.

From Karumba campgrounds web site:
"Grunter (javelin fish) are probably the most prolific fish in our estuary and tidal systems and many a bait fishing outing has been saved by the catching of dozens of these common, but very underrated fish. They are one of the best eating fish to come from our waters, but being so easy to catch, do not have the glamour nor appeal of the more famous species like Mangrove Jacks or Barramundi. Size and bag limits do apply to grunter. Soft white flesh and excellent eating."
Yeah mate it's a coal grunter. Not sure of the age but I caught quite a few and they all had the same colouration.
Would love to have one in a fishtank at home- gotta be one of the best looking aussie freshwater natives i've seen.
Cheers
For sure, that's a beautiful fish.
Same family as sooty.
Grunter/javelin/trumpeter are fantastic fish too but that little freshwater one would be spectacular in a tank, I agree.
