Thread: OMC tilt & trim switch.

    OMC tilt & trim switch.

Looks like tilt & trim switch has given up the ghost (hopefully, THAT is where the problem lies).

It is a forward OMC control unit with the switch located intergrally on the forward/reverse selector lever.

The tilt & trim has been erratic over the last few weeks, but now is not working at all.

Using a volt meter, I have continuous power to the "up" switch, but no power at all to the "down" side of the switch....ergo, I am thinking new switch needed.

I have tried to power the switch independent of the main system with another battery, but still no action....so now convinced it is in the switch.

Now, do I need to buy oem OMC, or is there an after market equivalent available...and, of course, where do I buy ?

    Thanks, Ray.

Ask Ian. You have his details from earlier when you talked to him.
I had a similar issue with one of mine and it was easier and cheaper to just change the entire forward control unit but that was on a bigger motor.

Does it work through relay's? and are they working?

No relays that I can see....the wires go directly back to the battery and T/T unit....I WILL check again though...

    Thanks, Ray.

Re: OMC tilt & trim switch.

It would seem...upon further inspection that there is no relay in the system...I now have the whole T/T wiring loom out and found....

3 sections of loom..in total something like 20ft in length....boat is only 16ft OVERall

Was about 5-6ft rolled up and tucked down in the gap between the side seats and hull...this deHav is an "Offshore"...so 4 seating sections....front, back & 2 sides.

Anyways, there are 2 x 4spade male & female harness joiners.....ONE all nice and GREEN and totally corroded on one spade.....the second, someone had seemed fit to fill with some sort of grease before connecting and taping up....grease melted and covering all 4 spades.

Got me buggered now how the whole T/T system even worked in the FIRST place.

Plan "A":...shorten the wiring loom, buy 2 new harness 4spade connectors, cut out all excess wiring and solder new ends into connectors and refit.

Started to get clued up after testing voltage at the T/T unit (which was fine)...and then middle join (which was NOT fine)....so we will see how Plan "A" works out...

Plan "B" will be hatched IF Plan "A" fails

    Thanks, Ray.
