Looking at the Haines Hunter 680 Patriot and wondering if 225hp is really enough? I think the best option would be twin 150's but I see a lot of them with only a single 225hp outboard on the back. I seem to recall people saying this isn't quite enough power.
225 is fine. We fished one a lot that had a 175 hpdi and it went o.k. too.
They will handle big h.p., but don't necessarily need it.

Bloke on here ozbee had a 300 Suzuki on his. Would be a weapon.
Have a mate with a 680 encore (similar) with a 250 zuk on it. Its a weapon! Reckon 225 would be fine.
Older 225 (3.3L) or the newer 4.2L?
You could also PM 'Captain Rednut' (Jim) and ask him, he owned one with a 3.3L 255 Yam 4s, and maybe even still does! His was pretty heavily decked out too and from memory it went pretty well. Also I think 'Johncar' owned one too, can't remember what power though.

There is a nice one interstate with twin yamms on it, 2009 hull I think, 2nd hand. Very tidy rig. Good luck either way.
We run a 680 soft top 225 Yamaha 4 blade solas prop @4600revs equals29 knots and yes that's usually our cruising speed if conditions allow full load of fuel two pob,average trip to northern barwons from Mooloolabah approx110lts return,hope this helps.

hey rat catcher i reckon the patriots should have had a 250hp minimum and best suited for the 300hp if they are heavy fully optioned models, my current 233 haines has the 300hp yamaha and im saving at least 30% on fuel over my last patriot because my cruising rpm is 1000rpm less and going faster which gets you there easier and quicker.
we do mooloolaba to the barwons/hards return for max 110 liters includes trolling all day with the 300hp.

Seems this is the general consensus. But hard to find a used rig with this configuration and I am not paying > $120k for a new Patriot. Would prefer to go custom platey at that money.
Anybody know of a Patriot for sale with either twin 150's or a single 250/300 4-stroke? Not interested in e-tecs.
I've just got a new one with the 250 Yamaha (Custom order from Brisbane boat show last year).
It's the one on Boat Point. They are using photos of our boat. But you can chuck another 15K on the price. Finished off with electronics etc it's about 140K. For a 120k it would be a very basic build.
I find the 250 plenty of power but I wouldn't go down to the 225.
Fuel economy is not flash. 80km trip uses 95L and that was 5 guys, little fuel and not much gear. From what I've been told they should get about 1km to the litre on average.
