large queensland groper
A big Qld groper was washed up on Kemp beach Yeppoon this morning. Hope he wasn`t a victim of the shark baits. I wonder how far away he came from? He was about 1.5mts long.

Hi Reggy
did you see it
it wouldn't be the pro set shark baits
hopefully it wasn't foul play, there used to be idiots fishing Double heads using ropes and chain with big hooks and baits just to kill one of these amazing critters
there has been huge giant groper and cod washed up right along this area and a couple of years ago one was washed up at the power boat club in Rocky and another near the bridges
Leggy and I found one up at Sandy Point that was still moving in water too shallow to swim and way too big for two of us to move
7'6" long and 6'6" around the guts. it had what appeared to be rope burns and big mesh net marks on it's head
we rang everyone who wasn't at work and the Parks guys who came up pretty quickly to no avail because it died before we could get it to deeper water

there used to be a resident groper at ironpot for many years. has been hooked and released many times. perhaps this time the struggle took its toll
