    Lowrance Elite 7 HDI

Hi all...have purchased recently above unite and have been experiencing the following

Seems to rake a long time to find satellite when compared to my previous Elite 5

The depth sensor at times just shows a shallow reading even when in 50 metres plus, we checked the "sensor" or whatever they call it at the back of the boat but in the correct position.

Any comments appreciated as boat not due for initial service for 2 months.

    Thanks
    PNP

Does it do it only when at speed or when stationary as well? I've found that my Elite 5 likes to lose the bottom depth whilst under power relatively often.

    Hi PNP,

I recently bought an Elite 7 as well and having similar problems.

    I have taken the boat out with the new unit 4 times so far;
All works well until it starts to play up intermittently showing the depth as 1-1.5 metres, sometimes 0.5m
Not an immediately starting problem, happens always around the mid fishing day.
Problem seem to fix itself few times without doing anything.
Even if I stop driving, engine off, still happens doesnt correct itself.

Couple of times it was fixed by restarting the unit, sometime it doesnt work.
Disconnecting the battery off completely also worked once, but not other times.

I was reading the user manual and it mentions to choose "fresh water" mode if under 100m for making sure not loosing the bottom.

Let me know your findings please.

    Regards

    Max

I also have this problem with the losing bottom and reading .5-1.5 meters when I'm in anything from 10m to 40m. It was a little better when I moved the transducer down but that made a rooster tail when at speed soaking the motor. I'm keen to hear of a solution.

My Elite 7x HDI arrives tomorrow. Once on the boat and I get to take it for a run I'll post my results back here. It'll be interesting to see.. If mine has these issues I probably won't end up keeping it.

Used mine today for the first time.. It was flawless. Didn't lose the bottom once, unlike my elite 5. Much better picture and overall a much better sounder too.

Used couple of days ago. Only screwed up once while on anchor.
Restarting through the menu fixed it, worked well all other times

Guys, could be a power supply issue.

I have found over the years that these Lowrance units really need good, clean solid 12V, so check your electrical system, connections, wiring, fuses and fuse holders, battery charge etc. for corrosion and good connections.

A good test is to run a set of fresh wires direct from the battery to the unit and if this solves the issue, you know where the problem is.

Was it in the sun all day? Is it flush mounted or in the bracket

    Re: Lowrance Elite 7 HDI

    Same problems for me.
Mine worked perfectly for the first 5 trips and now it works 50% of the time at best.
I am going to try dropping the transducer a touch but I reckon it should be spot on where it is.
I havent tried the "hard reset" yet that was suggested in a previous post, but I will.
I am going to save my GPS marks first.
Thanks for the tip once again Moonlighter. I will try the clean direct wire test.
Good luck everyone. I too will post my results.

Unit sits on a RAM mount fastened to my gunwale. It is in direct sunlight during all times of use.

I'm wondering if it's just a simple matter of these units not having a powerful enough processor inside to handle whats being asked of it?

I'd say it's just getting hot in the sun know of a bloke who had lots of dramas with flush mounting and the units being in the sun try leaving a smart phone in the sun all day and it will shut down etc. yours isn't flush mounted though. It could be a bad unit where did you buy it BCF?

    Re: Lowrance Elite 7 HDI

Guys...I spoke to the Lowrance tech line and they said to download the latest software and update the unit. I done this but over the weekend had similar issues again ie not picking up correct depths. Not sure where to go from here have contacted Lowrance again and am awaiting response.
    Cheers
