Well Done Scott!!. Thanks for the thread - It's a good look at what goes in to making a purpose built sport fishing boat.
Thanks for taking the time to present, what I am sure will be a very informative and interesting thread.
I have taken the quinnie up to Hervey Bay a couple of times and will be doing so with the big Trojan as well - found that there are a lot of rubble beaches (coral) and rubbly shoals everywhere - how do you go with glass hulls up there? Particularly in the shallows.
I reckon I would be paranoid about scratching the Gel Coat .

Mark - I did have concerns in relation to the glass hull and beaching it etc with our last Signature 485 as well. I applied a strip of Keel Shield and did not have any issues - although due to the square shape of the keel on the 543 I will not be able to do the same this time. I will fit another PowerPole to this one and just deploy it before going ashore and don't think I will have any issues :-)
I would not go back to a tinnie now after two glass boats - Scotto

Nice build! Love Haines boats.
Why specify no bowsprit? The absence of them on some boats annoys the crap out of me - I really don't like anchor rope running against the bow.
In terms of the cockpit layout, I love the way SeaFox do it in their CC's. http://www.boatpoint.com.au/reviews/...-console-37773
Will it have a T-top with slide out extensions?
Ben.
I've got a 540 F and although I don't like the way the description reads like a brochure its not incorrect. I'm still learning about the hull but it performs very well in the rough stuff. Trim tabs are a must I think and I wouldn't like to go back to not having them.
220ltrs is a lot of fuel for that to carry! I'll be interested to read your fuel figures Scott as I'm also close to upgrading to a 140 zuk. I'm having trouble with the position of the p66 transducer and will have to move it, probably to the same posi as the one in the pic.
Do you know much about the performance of that placement Scott. I don't like drilling holes in the transom.
Is there a book or article written about Han's trip? I guess he had the pick of all the hulls but chose the 540. I've heard that they're the best of the VDR hulls and it makes me wonder why its the only hull in the stable with those underwater porportions.
Im surprised that after all the comments over time regarding import boats/support Australian create jobs blah blah you still get people wanting to knock an Australian supporting an Australian company and being good enough to share with others! Good on you Scotto the Haines Group (there I said it again too) build great boats and its nice to see them getting involved with a bit of custom stuff to suit a particular customers requirement.
Look forward to seeing the ongoing pics and reports from when you get her on the water.
Cheers

Thanks for that - you will see I used a picture of the old deck liner - which is very different to ours completely. Console will also be very different as I thought the original one was very agricultural :-) Have you been happy with the over all performance and ride ?

Thought it looked familiar, hence the comment.
Performance and ride first class - extremely sensitive to trim, weight and steering input (good thing). It'll do 40kts with the 135 opti singing.
They'll always be an 18 ft boat, so as long as you can (mostly) keep them in the water they will go well.
Ours doesn't have tabs but they'd be good for punching the short sharp stuff.

Liners can be a great thing until you need acess to areas like bilge/transom. Seeing you have an inside run at the factory can I suggest getting Haines to put on good quality nyloc backing bolts and perhaps a proper conduit for electrical and control cables. Might not effect you, but as a former owner of GBC's boat it will save a lot oh hassle down the path for somebody.

Great looking boat again Scott you have a knack for putting together the best in boats and the Haines group are certainly a great company to deal with buy the look of things ,it will be very interesting to watch this boat come together thanks for sharing your experience ...Matt
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
