I would have thought that sensible as it will even out the load on the boat. So long as its under cover, well secured and not getting covered in spray when underway.

Hi all, just in the order phase of a new boat which is a 3.7m fibreglass rig.
Its got a 1.6m beam and at the back I am getting an esky and live well either side of the motor so it really only leaves enough room in the centre for a fuel tank.
The front of the boat has a 1.2 meter casting deck and below it is obviously empty so I am planning on putting the battery in there.
Just wondering what the school of thought is on batteries up the front and how it affects performance etc?

Classic Catches:
Flathead 25cm
Bream 22cm
Gumboot size 9
Seaweed 3 kgs
Berley Cage 2 kgs
My own hat
A shell, about 15cm diameter
Anchor rope, about 5 times.
Cheers for that!
The boat is glass and its got a 1.2 metre front casting deck and underneath the casting deck is a fully enclosed locker which they are infusing in a battery panel pad to mount the battery in so it will be well protected.
Also will have a bit of conduit run under the floor so I can get wires from the back to the front to the battery for things like the live well / sounder.
I am not an expert but I do recall that many batteries require venting because they vent hydrogen gas?
I think it would be wise to investigate if venting is needed... it may not be... just raising the possibility.
