    green zones on navionics.

hi all, could some one please tell me the easiest way to mark green and yellow zones on my navionics gold card.

I know they are marked with a thin purple line but still quite confusing especial if your not zoomed in enough to see them. if the whole area was shaded in it would be so easy.

you would think the money we pay for this stuff, navionic would have a update to cover this by now.

anyway has anybody come up with a easy way to hilite these area. cheers rob.....

Yes I was not happy with my gold card that I bought, expected a highlighted area.I just put the waypoints of the green zone in off the map, best I could come up with.

    1. Recreational chart developers have been renown for quite some time to lack the timeliness, resources and importance of necessary upgrades with regard on going changes especially with regard zoning.

    2. In the majority of such instances and especially if zoning is important then it may be more prudent to first select the particular chart format/manufacturer that best suits your requirements then match a particular chartplotter/system that supports that particular format.

    Hey Bobby Giffo and Daintree,
Most shops have display stock running.
Could a test of the unit to examine the map, prior to purchase, be the solution?

Depending on your chartplotter capabilities, one solution is to plot in the GZ co-ordinates & then turn them in a track using the most visible colour in your machine. It is a quick fix & enables you to mark GZ boundaries in the immediate area that you will be fishing. If you are limited to a small number of tracks then delete those that you are not going to be near.

It could have Paul if we thought that it may not have have been a standard inclusion. I was stupid enough to think that the green zones were even colour coded and they were displayed as that. I found out on my first weekend using the Lowrance that the green was only a low water bank.

I agree , it is such a standard function that should be there.

thanks for the advice gents. already got a hds sounder and the navionics card, so I have to make the best of it.

what I think I'll try is placing the courser on the thin purple line every so far apart and marking a way point with the scull and cross bones symbol in the sounder . could take a wile but should stand out. hmmm sounds like thirsty work.... cheers.

Is there anyway you can show more than one saved route at the same time on the iPhone navionics app?

Does the upgraded nav map module allow that?

The electronics section has all the green zones, that you can simply download and import into your gps, create routes on your unit. then just display the routes.

Personally I think the Federal/State governements should provide the GZ data to all marine map makers and then enforce it's inclusion on any product sold in Australia/QLD .. forced through legislation if neccessary.

If GZ are important (and I think they are) ... then do it right and dont have poor old rec fisho's getting stung by making it too hard to figure out.

I bought a GPS about 12months ago and it doesnt show GZ's. In this day and age of all things digital AND environmental sustainability, the fact that it doesnt show where you can't fish is a disgrace. But the Gov is more than happy to fine you if you get it wrong !

The Australian government has no rights to demand anything of the software developers, who are not based in Australia, even if they were they still don't have the right to demand a private company include their BS data.

However if they offered to pay for the data to be included then I could see some more proactive work being done..

Bear in mind every country in the world wants the same thing from the developers, imagine how many world wide changes are made weekly.

    HOnda.
