    Re: Aluminium Bait Tank

im thinking about redoing the tank either from the start with a new torch, fresh argon and a bigger cup size been using a #4 which is tiny and placing some SS angle behind the welds
im not sure if to start from scratch or just grind down my welds

    Re: Aluminium Bait Tank

i ground down the welds looks much neater now, i have to weld the top on and fill a couple corners that melted
im not sure if to mount it on the floor or up a little higher so there isnt any drain holes going thru the hull

    Looking good Gazza.
Mate I've got a perfectly good steering cable here you can have for free, it was only replaced because I changed the helm, it's the type that screws into the tilt tube but I think there are adapters made.
If you're interested look for a number stamped on the sheath a couple of feet in from the helm end or sometimes on the motor end, good luck with that.

hey tim im using a mishto AC/DC tig welder from ebay cost $600 when i bought it but its just cost me another $100 for a new torch as its almost impossible to find parts for the torch that came with the welder

i guess thats chinese for for ya

if your thinking of buying one i dont recommend the brand "mishto" or the ebay user "bit deals" to anyone all be it the cheapest on ebay there are better options from everlast welders

    Re: Aluminium Bait Tank

knew i had a thread here i forgot to update now that boat is sold ill still add some pictures of the old tank i went with after the box tank, now i have another boat a small 3.4m tinny im looking to fit out with another bait tank made from aluminium

anyone got any ideas how to fabricate a decent bait tank lid? the one pictured before was sharp even after rounding the edges i actually cut my bum on it and being positioned where it was in the middle of the seat left little room on either side to sit

im looking to make improvements on the second tank below that i'll recreate in a new size

my little tinny has 3 bench seats the bait tank will be sitting in the middle seat which measures only 250mm wide so i would really like for a bait tank around 210x800x220mm width/length/depth

i cant seem to find a hatch 250mm wide in a nice length for a bait tank so im going to have to make it

    need some idea's

Before you make the tank that big in a small boat, do some research on "Free surface effect". Not saying don't do it - just something to be wary of. As for the lid - get yourself a panel of "Starboard" or similar and get the top edge routed off - can function as a cutting board then if you wish as well. Either that or use a heavier gauge aluminium to allow a more rounded edge.
