I know the fishing warehouse in Townsville stocks them. Unfortunately they pay about the same or more to buy them in as you can get them from the states. Needless to say they are a lot more expensive. ($450 vs $250)

The Avet line up is just brilliant - they are built like the proverbial brick outhouse. They are fully machined, very strong and well finished. They are also mechanically simple with few parts (unless you start getting into the 2 speeds etc). I have 3 of them (SX, MXJ, JX) and am about to add an SXJ to the line up. If and when something goes wrong, what is the big deal about sending an email or making a call to the US and ordering the parts? I would almost guarantee the parts will arrive on your doorstep quicker than a competitor reel with "locally" available parts. With globalisation, it doesnt matter any more if a country is halfway across the world - a few clicks and a week later you have your parts. One thing the yanks do really well is customer service - unlike here...they really go out of their way to retain your business. Even with the drop in the dollar, you could get an SXJ landed here for around $200 - I wouldnt even bother here paying over twice that.
