    Dave,
Are you still noticing all the plastic/rubber snakes placed around boats at marinas to hopefully scare away birds?
Or the occasional contractor who is suddenly finding a plastic snake on the handrail?

I bought a couple of those plastic owls to keep ducks out of our pool, didn't work............. my wife took a video of the ducks swimming around the owls!

The owls have to be moved around virtually every second day otherwise the birds get used to them and learn they are not a threat. I see you can get ones that hang up and have wings that flap in the breeze which may be a lot better.

    Just found this - http://www.pigeoncontrolresourcecent...stic-owls.html
    and loved this comment -
“There are two ways that replica plastic owls can actually be used as bird deterrents, a) throw the owl hard at them and b) physically block access to the area with the owl.”

And this bit - The owl is a very efficient predator, but it not the natural predator of the gull or the pigeon. In a vast majority of cases plastic owl decoys will be sold to those experiencing problems with these species and as a result the product is likely to fail unless it is provided as part of a comprehensive control system

Yep, I've tried plastic snakes, fake owls and different types of hanging thingys against magpies. Each new gimmick keeps them away for as few hours until they work out it is no threat. They'll even tease the hell out of the cat and dog.

I've thought about a sling shot and taking a few out. However, knowing my luck (and aim), I'd probably just take out the neighbor's windows (or maybe him).

The best I have found is to block access to whatever you don't want them near (boat cover, netting, shade cloth) and removing/hiding any potential food sources (dog's bowl).

My neighbour's cat used to get in my boat so I put one of those movement activated toys in there to give it a wake up call.
If you look closely you can see his skid marks on the seat.
