no bites off Coolum
Hello we took advantage of our recent purchase a Whittley Impala 530 with a Mackay trailer and a 90 HP 2 stroke oil injected Mercury to get out in the beautiful weather this week. Excitedly dragged ourselves out of bed at 4am and launched from Point Cartwright Mooloolaba. Fished several spots including the reefs off Coolum in approx 12 to 20 meters of water. NOT A BITE!!! unbelievable with the scrumptious bait I was using cute little pilchards, squid and nice big green prawns. Better luck next time huh?
Now I know you wont want to give too much info on your favorite fishing spots off the Sunshine Coast but can anyone give me advice on which reefs to fish at Coolum as I've heard they are quite good.
Thank you
Ros

did you use your sounder to find spots with bait on it?

How many other boats around? Can shut down quickly there as gets pretty hammered.

not entirely sure how to use the sounder yet. Found reef with nice uneven bottom with bommies etc but are the fish those dark spots between the top and the bottom that appear periodically?

Re: no bites off Coolum
I did talk to others at the boat ramp and they got nothing except undersized fish for days at the neerings, apparently it's been too hot lately for the fish. Same old story huh, no fish because the tides weren't right, the wind was wrong, bait no good, wrong time of day, sinker too light, currents not right, reel failed, not holding your mouth right haha

Coolum really needs good bait shows for it to work for me. You are going to have to spend more time with your sounder. Fish life is the clouds of stuff between the surface and the bottom. I never fish a spot unless it has a "show" on the sounder.
