    Well done.

I called in at Aussie Seafoods at Capalaba on Monday to check on their mullet prices. While I was there, had a quick squizz at the fish prices.

Diver whiting fillets at $46 per kg!!!!! They are like gold!

Makes a trip over there to catch them well worth while from a financial perspective, let alone adding in the great family recreational and stresss reduction values etc of such a trip.

Crikey, I am glad that I catch my own, couldnt see myself buying them at that price!

    Cheers

I went out for a look around Deception Bay yesterday morning. Lots of red weed in the water off Caboolture River area made the fishing a bit tough. Ended up with 21 good sized whiting for a few hours effort.

Yeah. I give a fair share of mine away too. Amazing how word gets around amongst the family that I have a heap of fillets in the fridge! My elderly neighbour George is always appreciative of a feed of them too.

I was just surprised at how expensive they were! But the others are right - take into account the time to catch then fillet them, and I guess it adds up to a fair $ per kg rate for the pro's that line-fish for them.

Still, its kinda nice to be able to say to yourself (or the Commander-in-Chief of the Opposition Forces) that you've covered the cost of petrol, and then some!

Jeff - Might be time for a trip to the Sandhills. A couple of weeks ago when we were there, no weed to speak of. Sunday is looking good weather wise at this stage - interested in coming for a run in the Surtees? Give me a buzz.

mangrove rat.....100 fillets lately have been about 3-3kg.....bigger fish than sandhills.....those imported whiting are nowhere near as nice as our whiting, so I am told, I wouldn't buy them
