Question Popping for whiting around Maroochydore...

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if there are any Maroochy/Kawana/etc members that go landbased popping for whiting in the area?

My out-laws live at Mudjimba, so we are up that way about once a month.

I took my boy (about to turn 6) fishing at Currimundi Lake a few weekends ago where we pumped yabbies and caught plenty of whiting, albeit mostly undersized, but got enough for his first collect-catch-eat experience. He was absolutely stoked!

I have just sorted myself with all the right bits and pieces for popping for whiting after trawling through a lot of very informative threads on the forum and wanted to catch up with some locals to see how they do it.

You could always try over on the Northern side of Chambers Island in the Maroochy River... a nice walk over the foot bridge and you are there... bring a picnic basket for the missus and kids and you are set or if you have a boat you could head to the flats near the mouth of the Maroochy River.. there is some good sand flats there and as well as whiting there are dart, tailor and the occasional flathead.

time of the yr is the important factor for poppering to be really successful. When the glassy prawns are about the whiting will work the surface much better. Usually about oct to feb is the peak period for activity.
