I can see fish clearly in 500m as easily as 100m with a change of settings and you should be able to as well.
    Shane,

mate those pics you text me (cheers) are %1000 better than what i'm seeing. My transducers are flush mounted with the bottom of the hull and it appears to be a good job but mate i'm far from an expert especially in this area!!

When I go from 80mtrs to 120mtrs only using a 15mtr window i notice a significant difference and its harder to see fish and they show up smaller. You know the area where i fish and the quality is as good if not better in that depth so i'm definitely looking at similar shows in different depths but they don't look the same.

    Krill,

Depending on what speed i'm traveling i can use max gain without too much interference if any! Not sure if this is a bad thing either?

After reading a post from Anthony a few weeks ago i realised my sounder is 82B-35R and it only covers middle range frequencies between 65khz and 110khz. I'm not sure how this is going to affect me in 300-600mtrs?? Ive had it adjusted down to the lower end but still not getting a good reading.

I basically used a smaller window of 15-25mtrs looking at the bottom with max gain on the lowest frequency I have. But still shit!! The boys from Furuno were great but I'm a poor student!!! so next time ill take more notes when i head out for a trip.

    Cheers

Yep Shane's sounder picks up as good as gold at that depth

Yep that is a good sized fish.

The one's I have seen recently with the gold it is apparently due to spawning at this time of year and a lot are fat with row.

Not bad eating the bigger ones I reckon, had half of that one last night, they seem to have roe almost all year round down here, but I do believe that they spawn around now, there was a couple od pros drop lining them as well, pretty common now days to see half a dozen or more rec boats at the shelf bottom bashing, whereas only a few years ago, you would see maybe 2 pro boats and perhaps 1 rec (me) but the thought of deep sea tasty fish, and I guess in a way, easier fishing with a GPS has changed it all.

Hi guys i will include a sounder pic

    750 m water
1kw thru hull (fglass) with a raymarine c90w

You have plenty of grunt. Something must be wrong. My tip is to speak with the boys at whitworths gabba for their opinion. Usually pretty good at problem solving

    Hi Sambos,

I would say the pic below is an eight bar grouper, caught off evans head. I'm leaning towards the fish we caught not being the same species. Close, but not close enough. I will email it to the fish museum and hopefully someone can id it.

Great sounder pics guys, I can only dream of that quality with my current setup.

    Cheers

    Brett
