Yamaha ending carbie high HP 2 strokes?

Just trolling the Yamaha Aust website and found their 2013 marine outboard brochure.
The biggest carbie 2 stroke was the V4 115 and 130 hp engines.
There are no HPDI 2 strokes listed either.
Is the end near for the high Hp 2 smoke at Yamaha?

That has been "rumoured" for a while now, they will also drop the 115 carby 2 stroke as well in the future, I can see the days of almost any 2 stroke over about 50HP days are numbered, right or wrong, that's they way it's going, as a marketing point, I really can't see BRP's stand to not have a 4 stroke (whether they made it, or just rebadged it) as being a wise move ,not e-tec bashing here, just talking MARKETING, Yamaha seems to be losing a lot of ground and loyalty to the other makers at the moment, the whole industry is in a pretty weak state at the moment I think, how it pans out long term is anyone's guess.

I was really surprised when I read it but then if you think about it they had a massive number of different types of motor's. In time the pollution regs will shut them down I guess as well.

The other thing that I find interesting is how can Mercury sell a 150hp 4 stroke for $18k and the others are all over $20k? I have found ads on boat point for merc 150's with controls, prop etc for $17500 approx but the others are all $19k before controls etc.

The HPDI Yamaha was a bit of a temperamental beast, it required capable technicians to keep them running OK, a tinkerer could be in big trouble with them, they have also had their share of problems with other motors as well, the decision to delete some models from their range would be purely for financial reasons, they are a world player and need to keep on the ball to survive, world wide sales of big HP 2 strokes is on a very steep decline.

Mercury pricing has always been a bit hit and miss, I THINK the new simple 150HP was supposed to be a hot seller, but the numbers didn't materialise, so some discounting has started, could also be (really slim chance) that stock was purchased when the dollar was high, meaning the US product was cheaper than the Japanese variant?

I dropped in to Springwood Marine last week and old mate was quoting $18k fitted with stainless prop and smart craft gauges for a 150 Merc 4 stroke. That was without haggling. He was pushing it pretty hard too!

There will be a few upset commercial guys with smaller applications with that announcement. These and the 130 are just the toughest bits of kit. The HDPI doesnt surprise me...think I have seen about...well...1 in all the time I have been boating.

Interesting to see if the decline is also for ETEC.

    Cheers

Yep mate if I was to go down that road I would have to contact Yalta about getting the transom re rated for the extra weight. The current era 555's are rated to 220kg and I have been told that the 555's were always built with the same transom as the 615.
    Long way off yet though.

The new 150hp Merc is a great motor at a great price I was offered one at cost plus the Vessel Veiw set up if it was me I would over look the smart craft gauges and go the Vessel View system. If anyone wants a good price on merc pm me and I will point you in the right direction.

    Cheers Mick
